AJ, sorry bud but you are referring to Google "map" results. Google map results are not indexed based on the website, they are indexed based on the locations of the business, they have NOTHING todo with SEO. I am talking about whats called *organic results* which are indexed based on your website and its SEO (or lack of)
A quick search for “window cleaners London” proves my point actually since the ONLY site with a .COM is
http://www.thelondonwindowcleaner.com/ but this site also has the domain ALIAS
http://www.thelondonwindowcleaner.co.uk and IS the only reason it is placed so well.
Look guys, I worked for a search engine optimisation company for serveral years and studied web application development (client side, server side and database design) for three years at university so I *assure* you I know what I am talking about. The first advise any SEO consultant will give you is that you need a .co.uk if not as the primary then the ALIAS because a .com DOES affect your SEO results here in the UK, esp when targeting a UK audience.
Buy a second domain name for £5.98 every two years, it’s not going to get you to page one alone but it will help a hell of a lot more than just having a .com
Its not like im trying to convince you I am Jesus

I am just giving you a very basic tip, not to help me, to help yous to help yourselves...
