..........for not telling me how good EZ-snap connectors are!!
After 5 years of using hose-lock connectors I fitted some EZ-snaps I got from Gardners over the weekend. First day today with them and they are so good, robust and connect/disconnect so easy.
I wish I had made the cahnge years ago!

I agree. But what i find is better if changing poles alot is to keep the connectors closed and just pull the hose off the end.
The ez-snap connectors i'm using now have lasted me a year and a half. The previous longest time they have lasted me is about 4/5 months before they wouldn't disconnect anymore.

Mark - not sure what you mean? Am I right in saying that you do not disconnect the male and female but just pull the male out of the pole and hose?
If so, it wont work for me cos the connectors are held tightly in with O clips and anyway the pole hose is so stiff I need to put it into hot water to soften in when putting it all together.

Yes that's what i'm saying.
I used to use o clips but cut them off. The pole hose is the hose that gardiners use for their poles.

THE PROBLEM WITH ALL THESE EASY SNAP AND RECTUS 19 AND 21 IS THEY ARE MADE FOR AIR LINES SO WITH TIME THE GET DIRT IN AND ALSO RUST SO ONES NEED TO FLUSH WITH  WATER TO GET THE DIRT OUT AND LUBE WELL WITH A SPRAY OIL OR LIQUID SILICONE.

I changed mine over about 6 months ago. Which I must admit are 10 times better than hoselock ones. However for some unknown reason after about 3 months they no longer work as good. When I'm pushing male into female it just doesn't connect. Pretty frustrating really. This is when I put new ones in. Problem solved for time being anyway.

Protect the fitting with a tennis ball ...they will last and function much, much longer.

mark why would you faff about pulling the connector off the hose?dont understand why you would do that!!i use jubilee clips not o rings.also if you keep pulling the hose off how do you keep a good tight connection if you have no o rings/jubilee clips?

some of the connectors have small ball bearings inside that can rust (depends on the quality of the fitting)
and as previously stated they are intended for airlines in a non contact inviroment so being thrashed about
the streets they do tend to get hammered, that said they are a great connector.

as mark i don't use jubilee or o clips on my pole but i don't pull the hose off - i use the connector!
constantly pulling the hose on/off will stretch it and then start popping off on it's own.

darran how can you have a tight fit without anything to hold the connector on to the hose?

Have outgrown jubilee and o clips.
The hose doesn't leak. Some old hose used to after awhile but just snip 1/2 inch off the hose for a new tight connection.
Haven't snipped the newer yellow hose yet. Is still a tight fit.

Mine last about 3 or 4 months then they start to drip drip drip, eventually I just cut them off throw away and put new ones on.
I struggled for a couple of years trying to save costs by just making them last or just replacing the female but now I replace the whole lot.  No leaks.

I'm with you on this.  They are just a small running cost for the business.  The cost of replacing them immediately they start showing problems is easily offset by the time you save on every job when they are working fine.

That concept will go down like a lead balloon...people on here would rather spend five mintes extra on every job to save £5 a quarter.

Make sure the connectors you are getting are genuine rectus fittings with the brand name engraved on the side..

I remember Gardiners telling me that it's the inferior chinese copies which do not last.

I have been using genuine fittings for some time without trouble now.  :)
