enjoying the present moment !!
« on: January 20, 2011, 06:06:21 pm »
Practice enjoying the present moment, rather than using it up consumed with guilt over the past or worry about the future. Refuse to allow any thoughts based on your past to define you.

How many of you Practice this at all?

practice enjoying the moment? how do you practice this, does it have to be a nice moment in which case, if you stop and think about enjoying it then the moment has passed and youve missed the enjoyment you really didn't need to practice.

and if its a bad moment, how do you practice enjoying it, surely if your being stabbed, you aint gonna sit back and dwell on the positives.

or have i mis understood the statement.

enlighten us bosh. ;D

ps....really enjoyed replying to you, with practice, i will enjoy it even more.

Albert Einstein once said, "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."  Actually, there is no such thing as a mediocre mind.  Mind is the greatest power in all of creation. There are only people who use the awesome power of their mind for mediocre purposes, and unfortunately, when some great spirit surfaces to do great deeds, those same small thinking individuals violently oppose them rather than joining in and elevating their own life.
These great spirits Einstein was referring to are often considered radicals or dreamers.  They are seldom taken seriously by those individuals who seem to be satisfied with the status quo. The other day I came across a line by John Ruskin that anyone who is working with a big idea can use.  Ruskin said we could, "Paralyze resistance with persistence."
If you are working on a big idea, you will very likely encounter more opposition than acceptance.  Only those who work with big ideas are capable of even thinking about yours.  Understand why people oppose you and follow Ruskin's advice, "Paralyze resistance with persistence.”  ;)

I'd argue that Peter Sutcliffe has been reading the same book as he thinks he's safe now to be allowed out.
And I'm doing my best to forget about that carpet that shrunk a good 6 inches....shame Mrs Smith won't forget about though ;D

So if you are aware of the moment, you're not in the moment are you.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Bosh,

Have you read the power of now by eckhart tolle? Whislt I'm skeptical about some things he says, some of it's very interesting perspective, he says now is the only reality the past and future don't exsist, only in thoughts, the past happened in a previous now, the future and past are just thoughts in our mind. We never live life in the future or past. Now is the only reality. Now is all we ever have. Therefore make the most of it, never think in one year il do this then be happy.. Because you miss the now!

Which can only be a good message.

Here's the thing. Last Sunday my drains blocked up and there was poo everywhere. DynoRod wanted £250 just to turn up so I got my rods and my wellies out.

What did I do? I focused on the FUTURE, I really didn't see a way of 'enjoying the moment'.

In life to achieve anything of any great substance will mean pushing through times of discomfort, pain and suffering. The way to get through it is to place your mind on the future goal.

On the other hand some people do live their lives in the past or in the future which is a bit sad really.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

How many people put thir happiness in areas out oftheir control? ie I'll be happy when my lotto numbers come up . I'll be happy when this or that or when they do this or that. Putting your happiness in areas out of your control isnt good , your saying I cant be happy till........
Control your own happiness or contentment, this is not all about money and stuff.
Try to develop  positive thinking. Its like gardening-
plant flowers get flowers
plant weeds get weeds
plant nothing get ....... weeds
I find alot of quotes by Dale Carnegie spot on (google some)
ie One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that al of us tend to put of living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.
Peace brothers !
