Im still considering the L5 option and want to know from those that have them how you mount them? what did you do?

Is it possible to mount them on the cage of the tank? anything from B&Q that I should get and so on?

it has 3 ( i think ) brkts on the back, which you just screw to whatever you want to screw it to.

Well easy to mount, easy to plumb up and yes you could mount on the cage of a tank but would need some sort of board or chequer plate behind to avoid overheating plastic tank (just a precaution) honestly a half hour job to fit an L5, Dan.

Why would you want to muck about with an L5 fitting it etc? surely a hot add on from ionics or PF or someone would be more benifit than mucking about with DIY'ing something like a hot set up? Thought you were a boy who liked his quality elements? seems odd to have a decent set up and then muck about with a shower unit or what ever it is?

Probably because he doesn't want to pay hundreds more than he has to, for more or less the same thing, that produces the same thing: HOT WATER    A fool and his money are easily parted

When you earn a good wedge you don't need to muck about with shower units. A fool with money can pay someone else to do it

Im not skint and im sure alot of other l5 users arent either, perhaps they think like me. I believe in spending money where you have to.. thats why i have decent poles 60ft gadriner sl, 30ft slx and just bought 22ft slx because i beleive they are the best and it is not worth taking a short cut in this area.however... I also beleive in saving money were you can thats why i have an L5,our  hot water is good for cleaning just as much as an ionic or similar system the only difference is we have saved thousands.

Your right. I wish I'd been as smart. I am learning from the best thanks for lesson in how to run a good business. Maybe I should trade in my van for a horse and cart. It still gets me about to my jobs and it will save me thousands. Am I catching on?

have you informed your insurance company?

does your l5 set up adhere to the requirements outlined here: http://www.hse.gov.uk/cdg/manual/index.htm

do you carry a fire extinguisher?

how reliable is a shower unit operating 6-8 hours a day every day?

was it installed by a gas safe engineer?

all these questions may sound strabge considering what i was booked in for today, but they are the questions you need to ask yourself.

if the answer is no to any of the above, then, you can't value your life, or business, very highly.

An on demand system is the best and most cost effective for the job. Most plumbers would be happy to fit it for you or the other view is that it is similar in difficulty to a garden barbecue powered by gas.

What you have to decide is which heater and which set up.Are your vans one or two man operations?If you two you either have two heaters - or- the heater goes before the pump.Either way way make sure the plumber puts you in a return to tank to depressure the system or to run hot straight into the tank.

The heater i have is ce marked and designed to work without a flue, but you have already stated you want to work doors shut.If you google rinnai or marco heaters for caravans any of these will do the job.People are attracted to the l5 because it is cheap but the fact that it cannot be openly sold in europe and must come via the USA tells you something.

They don't seem to make mine any more a EU54, the replacment seems to have a flue.The idea of a flue is to remove carbon monoxide.

In my case i have a bulk head seperating the cab and am no where near when the thing is in operation.


Carbon monoxide builds up in the body and combines with heameglobin to form carboxyheameglobin, meaning your blood can not absorb oxygen and you die.It's called the silent killer because it is absorbed over hours and people can fall asleep and not wake up.Incomplete combustion causes the gas.

I wasnt putting myself up as any kind of authority. there is enough know it alls and arrogance on here without me joining in. just saying that sometimes you dont need the big brand names but on the other hand sometimes you do.

Who are you insured with? I am insured through A-Plan, don't know which company underwrite it, but, I was told in no uncertain terms, my policy would be cancelled if I had a canister on board. They looked to put it with another company, and they were wanting close to £1500 before confirming the systems safety. So if yours is declared,  you must have done ok, as its seen to be a HUGE risk. Maybe just my insurers...?

I asked my insurance today as its up for renewal,and they said it was ok up to carrying 11kg of gas, No extra charge. That was through commercial vehicle direct, with a company called highway, They were also ok with water tanks up to 500 litres,After that the premiums went up quite steeply.

Ahh, you're with the "Ionics' Insurance buddies" or A-Plan. I presume you have an Ionics system?
They have their special rules to keep their special client happy.

I don't understand why it would be a problem anyway, caravans and camper vans carry them around, Why is it a big deal for us to carry them round? (for some insurers)
