Best gloves for winter.

I had some Unger ones last winter but they don't last long. They rip too easily especially when collapsing my pole several times a day.

They look too big and clumsy to use

Hand on heart I reckon those would be next to useless within a month...this gloves thing is a real problem...most wfp'ers want a way to stop black hands and in winter to protect against wet and cold...

Wish I had the answer to this ...

i use the gul winter gloves from gardiners.a bit pricey(about 20quid with delivery).they are ok as long as you dont get them wet as their not waterproof.i find them ok and you still have a good feel on the pole and squeegee and no black hands!once their wet though i chuck them back in the van.

i find i only use the gloves for a few hours on cold mornings then i find they slow me up too much.

what you need is motor bike gloves they are designed to with held low temps. my gloves were ok in temps of -3c and wind chill of -20c. yeh my finger tips went numb now and then but that cant be helped. i suffer with really bad toes tho so any links to footwear would be great  ;D

Form B - I agree with you up to a point.  I think they are terrific until about 0 dec C.  Then they are just too cold, and I switch to Showa 460s.  Astoundingly warm and yet not too unwieldy.  Also, very easy to get on and off.

Wore these for the first time this morning.

Seriously they are fantastic, don't even consider spending £ on any other glove this winter. I only wish I knew about these in January whilst working in -8 degrees.

OK, Form B, ignore my comment about 370's getting too cold at or about zero.  Ignore the positives about extra warmth.  Ignore the ease of removal and the fact that they aren't too unwieldy.

Everyone else, feel free to be open minded and try Form B's suggestion when it's warmer, and maybe consider if I might know a little when it's colder.  I've had 460s on all day in preference to the 377's so I might be mad or right; who can tell?

Ant...as for comfortable boots...try muck boots...they are great...ok the sole is not all that but wear them down and have a proper hard sole to resole them and you have a great boot which is warm, water proof and very comfortable and they look good too.

Cheers
Dave.

I do have a tiny bit of experience cleaning windows in the cold. Some might say more experience than you.

Some might even say that, hey if you get these:

http://www.arco.co.uk/products/14G4300/136392/Showa%20377%20Foam%20Coated%20Nitrile%20Gloves

you wont even need to take them off.

Some might also add that when ambient temperature is below zero it is nigh on impossible clean windows at any rate.

Yes, you may have more experience but I'm the one who was wearing them today.  Despite my bowing to your astounding knowledge of all things window cleaning, I do know when my hands are warm and when they are cold.  Today, in the 377s, they were cold.  In the 460s, they were warm and I could work despite the all-knowing guru declaring them "too thick".  Despite your knowing everything there is to know about everything, both of those facts remain true.

Unless I'm making it up, of course, as some kind of fiendish plot to rig the market for Showa 460 gloves, available at: http://www.safetysupplies.co.uk/trolleyed/6/18/
