Good Morning. Its our first time on the forum and we are seeking advice regarding aluminium poles we purchased 4x36 ft poles in February 2010 costing £780.00 from a company(In  North West,we  cannot name them because they said that they may sue us if we mention there name) the poles were bought with a 3 year warranty.  After using them for a couple of months they had developed bends in some sections( 16 0f 24 sections ) so we rang the company and explained the problem this went on for approximately 3 months they never returned our calls in the end they asked if we would send photogarphs of the bent poles which we duly, did a further month passed and still no returned calls on the 9th of September we packed the poles and sent them back to the company who sold them to us, on Monday 18th of October we rang them to ask what progress they were making with the poles they replied that they had not received the poles upon investigating at thier end it was established that the poles had been in the warehouse for over a month and nobody new. Finally we received an e-mail on Friday 22nd October to tell us that the decision was that the warranty did not cover aggressive use of the poles but they would fix the poles and charge £793.13. Each pole that was bent was used in different vehicle and different teams in each van there were numerous poles including aluminium in the same vans and no other poles had bent we have never had this problem before Our questions are simply what good are warranties when the company who sold the equipment decides the validity of any warranty claims. Has any one else had any dealings or problems with these poles or companies.We look forward to receiving replies to our problem

did you pay 780 each total 2300 I would speak to trading standards sounds like a bad batch and if under warranty they should fix them under warranty or replace.Sounds like you have a large company and know what your doing regarding caring for your equipment.I cant see what aggressive use would be maybe using them for window cleaning.I hope you get a good outcome.

Sounds like a Bradford Window Cleaning Co,

I used to have a business up your neck of the woods, cleaning windows at Jacobs Well, Central Library, Alhambra etc I Sold out to Jamie at Blade.

Aluminium poles can easily bend, when pressure is placed upon them by operatives aggressively rubbing staines on the glass.

However the company who sold them to you, should honour their three year Guarantee.

You should definately name em and shame em! I am sure by now your company is bigger than theirs, so perhaps you should sue them?

I have used ali poles for years before my carbon pole and I never had any trouble with bending poles

 4 out of 6 sections bent on each pole would suggest a very very faulty batch at manufacture or perhaps employees trying to destroy them as handling a 36ft alloy all day is a bit too much like hard work especially with a standard heavy brush.

i have the brodex 25ft alloy hydra and i think its a great robust sturdy pole.excellent for  few bigger jobs and commercial.sounds like a bad batch unless your staff ACCIDENTLY DROVE OVER THEM!!

I have a 25' Brodex and I would be very surprised if you could bend them under normal use

 I'm inclined to agree with rg1.

Unfortunately, no supplier will guarantee their product if damaged by abuse - faulty workmanship and or materials yes. It's probably going to be up to you to prove to them that the product was faulty. ie thin or weak material rather than them proving that it isn't. That could be quite expensive on your part. If you sue them, you will have to prove to a court that their product isn't fit for purpose.

The manufacturer will also look at the other parts of the pole, ie clamps, bush and brush holder to reach their conclusion.

The motor industry's guarantees are a good example. If you have a clutch go at 90k and your van has a 3yr 100k warranty and you live in London, that will most certainly not be covered as fair wear and tear will be the criteria - its worn out. This is why I have to laugh at some new cars with 7 year warranties - just another marketing tool.

If these are Brodex poles, I found them to be very strong but were too heavy for me. One of the local cleaners uses them- they are abused and last them fine. If these are the poles you have, then I'm afraid there's nothing out there that will last with your employees.

This is my opinion and I am not related to any manufacturer or supplier.

I have 10 aluminium poles which I bought from a company in NW England in Nov last year with a 3 year warranty.

I now have 7 sections which are bent. I phoned to inform them of the problem and they told me that there is no way these poles can be bent by cleaning windows.

I can say with certainty that these poles have not been used for anything other than cleaning windows, I admit that our lads can be a tad heavy handed occasionally but that is the very reason that I purchased poles with a 3 year warranty in the first place.

Luckily I had the foresight to insist that the company send me 2 complete sets of spares when I placed the order.

With 2 years still left to run on the warranties I am becoming concerned that the spares are going to run out. I would be very interested to know how this pans out for you. Please keep me posted.

Maybe you need to have a word with your lads cos as I said earlier, I don't see how you can bend the poles using them for the purpose that they were made for.

Sadly I dont thing c/f poles would be any good to you. I had my Ungers for years and never bent any of them

sounds a bit like over extending or extending to max then giving them welly;
had brodex poles for yrs gf ones and they dont wear out
