How many poles do you chuck in a year?
« on: August 18, 2010, 07:46:32 am »
I reckon I buy about 2 poles a year.

Carbon fibre top two sections, glass fibre the base.

18'.

Clamps go, and the carbon sections rot at their.

well ive bought 3 in 2 months of wfp!

first i bought a 20ft glass fibre n-tech pole(only used it for 2 weeks.its a spare pole now!)

then bought a 25ft alloy hydra.great pole but too heavy and long(closed length)to use all day for tops and bottoms.

just got a 22ft clx which will become my main pole for most regular work.

i also have a very short pole made up from a unger optiloc(itll be mainly used for washing the van now!)and a monster 30 ft 5 section unger teleplus for the odd bigger job.

id happly buy a clx every year if i use it on a lot of work day to day.maybe a new one every 6 months!

my other poles should last a few years as they dont get used as often.

I reckon on a year for a pole, mine is 11 months old now and getting ropey. Trouble is they are too good to throw away so now I have three "spare" poles that I have no use for.

That's a worry as the poles are very expensive and you get through 1-2 a year.

what poles are you using? I only use ionics, maintain them and they will last you.

I go through 4 or 5. They don't hang around long when they realise how easy it is to set up and undercut me!

Sorry couldn't help my self  ;D ;D ;D

No they are not expensive, around £100-120 for an everyday pole. If it lasts a year thats around £2 a week which is tax deductable anyway. Trying to soldier on with a clapped out pole will lose you more than that in wasted time.

Working 2/3 days a week we used to get through a fg pole every 6-9 months each, xtels and before that universals and excels. However we have switched to the slx and I have one that is well over 2 years old and going strong used every day and another that's coming a year now and looks fine. I reckon life on the slx with the new clamps will be 2-3 years easy.

What are you guys doing with your poles so that they only last 6 month. I have poles that were second hand when I started 5 years ago. Even in that time I have bought only 1 facelift pole.

I am the same i am only just starting to replace the second hand poles I bought 4 years ago when I first went WFP.

I have bought a couple of brodex poles for 3 storey stuff, which i do not rate very highly due to useless clamps.

They used to last us about 6 months, until we changed to the Brodex Hydra alloy pole, 3 year guarantee and to be honest they've been going well over 6 months now and still look like new.
