Hi I just bought an NVC19 Detergent Extractor Machine, with Comet Extraction Cleaner Detergent.  I have never attempted this cleanup before, will this combo be the exact combo for cleaning household carpets ?  If you have any tips in addition to the above by all means reply.

How does this NVC19 machine rate for simple household carpet cleaning?

Usual to ask for advice BEFORE you spend.

Its a Karcher Puzzi - used a bit by the car valeting fraternity.

You will do a job ok IF you know what you doing - have you had any training?
So easy to make a mess of jobs if you dont know what you doing.

As it is, even with training you will find the going tough with this machine.
It is so easy to wet a carpet too much and with that machine it hasnt really got the power to suck it up when you do that.

Dont use too much solution
Dont over wet the carpet or, worse still, the upholstery
Do plenty of dry storkes
Practise on your own carpets/furniture before you go into a clients
Get insured

Hi Mr Hatton,
This is only for home domestic use sorry I omitted to give full outline.  I dont know what Im doing re experience? How about a tutorial for this on the web?  Will instructions on Comet be sufficient for A-Z of the job?  How do I avoid over wetting carpet? No upholster use.  What are dry strokes?

Many thanks for the reply, lastly just reserved ten pound sprayer 720/3769 Argos, as advised on board, you think it will be quite sufficient for domestic home use and weedkiller ect?

Regards,

Berne

I've just rang a lady back as she'd left me a message about having her carpets cleaned this morning.
"Not to worry" She said "we've hired a RD!"
I explained that as she's already took the plunge, she needs to avoid over wetting and to rinse the carpet afterwards to make sure there are is no residue to avoid rapid resoiling. I also said that she should "Dry Pass" until she thinks it's dry enough, then dry pass again....

When I told her that I would have done the job for around £50, it would take 2 hours to dry and the solution I use incorporates a soil retardant.... She said "I wish I'd flippin' waited now..."

The best advice is, take the machine back and pay for a professional to do a proper job fella....

Hi ,
Im kinda ina spin to decifer some of the replies, transport ect does not enter the issue, the purhcased item is only for our family home to use on our carpets?  As no further equipment is required  ( I think ) and no offers of Super Video Tutorials were offered, then Utube here I come.

I have no need to hire a pro, with Utube assistance Im sure the job can be correctly done.

Anyhow, thanks for the good advice, nothing further.

Hi,
Should have thought more about initial post true, but to clear the air, I have bought the said machine and yes Im going to clean my Mothers carpets in our family home.  As for business potential , well its not for me, but I do wish you guys the best of luck if it happens to be your chosen area of revenue.

It has been a learning experience look: 3 dry runs, not too much solution, dont over wet the area being cleaned.

All the best,

Berne ;)

Hi Berne,

I'm not quite getting the suspicion and somewhat ill-regarded comments from some on here.  Maybe I am missing something here, but you appear to be simply asking for some basic advice on using low-end hot water extraction machines like the one you have bought.

My advice would be to do as you suggested; get on youtube. There are hundreds of videos that will show you some basic techniques. Just beware; there also some complete no-hopers who have made videos that show them doing all the mistakes! I've seen so-called pro's doing no dry strokes with a wand (overwets the carpet), lightening fast strokes that won't properly rinse or dry the carpet and people doing no prep work, like vacuuming and prespraying. In my experience the prep work is what will influence the quality of the final result, more than the expensiveness of the HWE machine or even it's effectiveness in the wash stage.  Knowledge is HUGE part too though.   There are some really experienced guys on here who could get a better result using a Rug Doctor that an amateur could get using a top of the range truckmount system.  I've even seen a guy on youtube who uses spray bottles, terry towells and chems only, doing all carpets by hand and appears to get good results!

Good luck with your cleaning at home.   Use the correct amount of solution, by a prespray and use it lightly, and get as much of the water off with dry strokes after you've done your wash.

Cheers,

Dave

With much respect Mr Rogers... You will find that when you've been on the forum for long enough, "Stoopid Questions" do get asked, usually by some disgruntled banned member... It usually starts with  "I have just bought a RD and have succsefully cleaned a 800 bedroom hotel.... Was £250 a bit cheap?"

I'm afraid that this thread stank of a p. take!

Much respect to Berne, but he'll learn the hard and expensive way unfortunatley... If you want something doing, get a professional in :)

ive got to ask this question berne, when you hoover your carpet do you move all the furniture to clean under them? or do you just hoover around?, what im getting at here is everyone can hoover but not everyone can hoover properly,
food for thought when you go buy yourself a carpet cleaning machine just to save money!!!!!!
maybe check the post regarding client that decided to clean there own carpets only to shrink them.

happy days :)
