Shaun,

Not using either. Best to keep things like this 'in house.' The problem with SEO companies is that they offer EVERY client the same thing and when they are not working for you they may well be working for your competitors. Not saying they've re-used any of our material, because they haven't but, but they do work for our competitors and that brings in a conflict of interest which is never a good thing.

Dave,

You need to have an SEO company that works just for you and not your competitors. If they are working for you and promising you Page 1 status they are also promising the same thing to your competitors. Best to either DIY or get a company that works fore only you in your area.

I use 4 square I have no issues but seeing your point, you may need to have a local expert not a web expert which is infront of all carpet cleaner is the real motto of the story.

Any one can copy websites , any decent web designer will do what they call "spinning".

My web designers know nothing about carpet cleaning , so they search several other sites , rip off the content then "spin " the words and change them enough so people like copyscape can not detect copying.
I clean carpets
I dry Buildings

You must be doing well if you have a team of web designers promoting your company  :-\  text is text, if they use that so what.. someone elses logos and pics are a big no no

Dont see a problem in the above, Ive looked at websites for ideas, then put them in my wn words.

Its more then cheeky, IMO, to copy whole sections of text and not attempt to change much if anything at all.,

I do it my self and it works really well for us  ;D

I agree with major clean up, when you use compnaies like DP they do exactly the same for your competitors.

It takes time yes, but at leas i know it works and no other websites are identical to mine.

seems his site has ran out of bandwidth :D

i wouldn't worry about him copying your text word for word as he's only making it worse for himself. google will see it's all copied and penalise him heavily for it.

have to admit, i've made a site a few weeks ago which i'm not currently promoting, but all the text on it right now is copied and edited just to fill the gaps until i have time to edit it properly. it's standard practice and silly to worry about unless they're close enough that customers are likely to find yours and theirs at the same time

A common myth that.

I think I have to agree with you. I have numerous websites of which a few were identical. Didn't seem to effect their positionings within the same search.

how do you know it wasn't effecting their positioning?

how do you know it wasn't effecting their positioning?

Because I'd have 4 different websites (but vertually all identical content) on the first page.
And to be honest I'd settle for that anyday.

but that could be down to other reasons (lack of competition, better seo then others etc) , and would mean it's easier (not easy) for competition to steal the top spot.

unique is what Google wants, not copied, so they'll penalise, or do nothing if you're lucky, but given that the best way to get new customers is from the likes of google, why take the risk. i'd say advising that repeated content is ok is daft (not aimed directly at you) and not good for a lot of people who don't know better.

Appreciate that websites are an economical way to advertise your wares - but why all this drama about whose transcript is plagiarised by whom.   99.9% of the time any potential client is not going to come across it & even if they do it wouldn't effect their judgement.

Can't understand why carpet cleaners can't just converse with potential clients in the old fashion way :-\  - keeps me fully occupied cleaning carpets etc - and more so - anything I say or write to a potential client is not plagiarised by another carpet cleaners

must admit frans, 2 days ago i would of said the same thing about someone using someone elses wording, but when you see your own wording identical on someone elses website it really p's you off. like i said, if he'd of asked me i'd of said, "knock yourself out mate, be my guest" so its not about the wording, its about the bare faced cheek of it.

those that have had it done to them will know where i'm coming from. those that haven't will think i'm being petty, just like i would of, 2 days ago.
