Possibly looking at a new machine - porty
« on: May 02, 2010, 07:04:04 pm »
Hi Guys,

Theres so much choice.

Right, as you know I have a Rhino. Yes I know alot of you think they are cheap as chips and rubbish. Well at present its still going strong. But I need it servicing soon, but I am having issues with finding spares. Not that I need them at this moment in time.

I have another member of staff with a speedster.

However I am looking into getting another machine. As we have the work available at present. But not necessarily enough for a TM yet.

So I was looking at:

Scorpion

Airflex Tubo

Alltec tripple Advance

These machines are about £3000 mark.

Are there any other machines available? That you would consider. Oh I would not consier any machine under 500psi

Even with my cheapo Rhino I have 85 feet of hose and it sucks/pumps great and require this as I do not want to be lugging machines updstairs to the 3rd and 4th floors.

From someone who runs an Altec Triple Vac, I can only wax lyrical about it :)

HAHAHAHAHA....Yes mate I did get her text but I'm now too afraid to reply to "Joe Bloggs Cafe"

I have the Powr-Flite PFX1080 500 psi and can confirm that it is a great unit. To be Honest both the PFX1080 & PFX1350 are both great machines combined with the "perfect heat" system. Gotta say that Amtech's service is fantastic, I'm a huge fan!

You would be delighted with all 3 of these machines and you would be happy. There are now quite a few on here who operate all of them and any major problems we would of heard of it by now, I have the Airflex tripple, and am still really pleased with it's performance, but I would suggest getting at least 50' of 2" hose. I would however of gone for a Prowler but for one reason. My Alltec twin vac was getting quite old and needed replacing and several of my largest repeat customers a TM was completely impractical so I chose the Airflex as my need for a portable was greater. If my plans go right this year then I will be getting either a Prowler or an alternative over this winter. I now have a van with ample room, but if your customer base allows for TM I would go that route.

I have used the Scorpion on many occasions and found it had really good pefomance. There are a couple of guys on here that have owned th Scorpion & the Airflx and have said that the Airflex is a better machine.  Depending on your budget id go for the Prowler as everyone that has one has nothing but fantastic things to say about them.  If its really a porty that you want though and want the ultimate porty vac power then go for a triple vac porty plus get a vac booster.  Believe me even running a triple vac machine with a vac booster is a big help.

Richie.

Hi People,

Many thanks for the replies and helpful hints.

Yes I have been considering the Prowler. I have heard fantastic things and some pain in the rear things.

I have heard that you need the support for this machine(Prowler). But it is expensive here in the UK. There are a few in the US for sale 2nd hand. I know the power need changing over.

I dont know if I will go the Prowler route due to expense and support that maybe required. If I did go this route, I would get my father in law to ship it over from Texas as he lives in Texas. That alone would be a huge saving even with shipping.

I like the airflex but then there is no heat! Unless you purchase the add on heater.

A vac booster? My ignorence will show, where can I get one of these? Cleansmart?

The Prowler  runs on petrol , so no need to change over the electrics.

You would make very minimal savings at the moment by going the grey import route ,  after VAT, import duty,  shipping  and the paperwork a thousand would be the most you would save.

and importing a machine from the US may mean you loose out on the customer support you get from the UK dealer - that has got to be worth some think about.
If I was a UK dealer of US goods I would be tempted to say "sorry mate, you are on your own".

Why dont we all import cars from a country where they sell cheaper? Same situation.

With the price of petrol what would be the cost / litre per hour on a prowler?

I would agree with jason l on this and would get some info from john kelly at restormate.

He would offer great back up service..

I would also make sure you have a good workload so you can work it to your advantage.

VAT is ok we are VAT registered.

I know it petrol, but I thought something(s) needed to be changed over for use in the UK. I could be wrong

And yes support for this product is what is stopping me from shipping it over. Which can be done as my father in law reside in Texas. So I could bypass the UK.

import tax / duty is not that high.

Joe

Yes I agree with you. Support is everthing when its needed. But its alot to pay in the UK. So at present I am looking for an upgrade in electric poprty.

I will telephone John at Restore mate and see what the lease cost would be on the Prowler to compare prices with an electric porty.

Clinton

I agree here as well. We do have the work load. But maybe I am thinking wrong. My return would take longer to get back than if I could get the same results with a CFR/SCORPION/AIRFLEX. Plus no cost on the running side as use customers electric. If I needed to work at a site with no electric I can use my brother generator which is huge. So at the moment I would say it

CFR/SCORPION/AIRFLEX one of these as £6500 is alot to find where as £3000 is easier.

I have also looked at the Thermaflex machine. The yellow one which i remote control. But it only has a 160psi pump.

I am looking at the cfr 750 but cannot find a price as yet as that is big emough to deal with hard floors. The Alltec at 1200psi is great but I am not sure if you can truck mount it like scorpion or airflex. And they are along way from me.

Dave

An electical connection came loose, I tightened the crimp and it's sorted. The little rubber seals are becoming detached on 2 of the rocker switches.
Mechanically? No problems whatsoever, the pop out circuit breakers have never popped and It's never tripped anyones electric.... My old "Brand New" machine doesn't even compare ::)

Cheers Colin

Would you say your drying times are quicker with the Alltec?
