Ok, I appologise for the lack of thought I gave to posting that picture.  I didnt realise that so many people would take offence at it.  It was not intended to take the mickey out of people with disabilities, children with Downs Syndrome or anything like that.  It was posted to make the point that it is exactly what it says on the tin.  Winning an argument on the internet simply means you can put a case across better than the person you argue against and nothing more.  It does not make you a better person, or more able.

Obviously, I misjudged the tone of the thread that the picture was originally posted in. (As others have misjudged the contextc in which it was posted).  I appologise for the offense many people took of it.  It was not intended in the manner in which it was taken.

As an ex-nurse I have worked with many people who endure the insensitive and uneducated comments made by others about their conditions, including men tal illness and physical disabilities, and I should have realised that the effect of posting that picture may not have had the effect I intended.

Oh, and MJH, your main beef seems to be the picture itself.  I thought the little boy in the picture was a beutiful image, full of joy at winning a race.  The context in which I used this particular image was inappropriate and thoughtless I agree.  Oh and retarded is still used in American mental health literature..

Its a shame to use as you say a 'beautiful image' with unacceptable literature, i am not just getting on my high horse due to my daughters disability but i felt it was well out of order, you don't come across as stupid yourself so i felt this point had to be raised and i hope in future you will think before you speak.

Sanity i never took what you said personally, i worked up until 2 weeks ago with adults with learning difficulties and my daughter of 6 has a condition called TSC  ( h ttp://www.tuberous-sclerosis.org/about-tuberous-sclerosis/ )                      which includes having tumors of her brain and other organs, the thing is these special people are lucky in a way as they dont see the bad that goes on in this world and you could say what you want and they wouldnt care and would smile and just carry on with there life, i have dealt with this myself with some obnoxious people before and believe me there are some nasty people out there. But also retarded isnt a world taken lightly in this country anymore its ever special needs or learning difficulties.

I don’t think Sanity intension was to put disabled people down.
He has apologised, but in his post he still lacks the understanding of why it is offensive.

I’ve read Sanity previous post over the months; I don’t think he’s a malicious person and I won’t past judgement over what is a small error. I don’t think he should be banned from this forum as some have said (in haste.)

I don’t want to excuse the picture, that’s the offence not Sanity.

Correct it ain't hard and i for one come on here for window cleaning issues, but obviously a bit of banter keeps it more interesting as talking about w/c can be a bit boring, however if someone posts something offensive they need telling, i don't come on here to see that rubbish,END OF!!
