Re-Tennet/ Locked post
« on: June 07, 2008, 09:22:16 pm »
I have been a member of this forum for the past couple of years, and have just read the most mindless and thick minded post to date.

I do not understand how sanity has the cheek to say all of that s&&t about Tennet and then post a picture about children with disabilities (i.e down syndrome) it is disgusting and offensive and shows how ignorant some people are in this world.

I accept people having a go at me etc, but I just dont understand why sanity did that?

The problem is, even if he does say sorry, we still know that he thinks its ok to make fun of children with disabilities.  That tells us the type of guy he is, I dont think you can really go much lower.

I dont see any way back for this fella, very bad form.

German?  Oh no, please dont tell me squeaky clean is gonna tell us he thought that picture was funny and we're all being little hitlers.  If you want to condone making fun of disabled children, I doubt you'll find much support for that squeaky mate.

We all say stupid things, i'm the worlds worst. I'm sure it was done without too much thought.

My point was how very easy it is to upset people. If the magazine idea ever does go anywhere care should be taken.

Squeaky- you obviously thnk F1's max moseley's okay too

He probably won't say sorry, this sort of ignorance is clearly part of his dailly life, i accept the word retard was used 50 maybe 60 years ago but to show a picture like that now and think it is acceptable beggars belief!!

I agree, using someone that has Downs Syndrome to make a point! when its a window cleaning forum is total out of order, and trying to defend something like that, in my book makes you just as bad

Don't know much about the guy.

I know he was involved in some sort of orgy though.
Fair play to him. ;)

I'm making no derogative  remarks about any member as its not in my nature.

What I will say is that once a month, I clean a children's home for sick and handicapped children, its not a pretty sight when you see a child laying in his/her bed waiting to die, or children being hand or drip fed, children that can't walk or talk, or just children who sit and stare out of a window all day long etc.

Its a very upsetting sight when a child is laying in there bed, with maybe only weeks/days to live but they find the energy in there little body's to raise there hands to give the window cleaner a little wave but when you return the following month, there no longer there :'(

I recon the post was in haste, so lets think our self's lucky for what we have and just let the post go?

I agree with the above sanity appears to have had a moment of insanity. Discount please be assured nothing like that will appear in the magazine and that caution will be exercised in regards to the editing. BTW I locked the thread at the request of a member hope you guys agreed with that  action. Tennet, I started that post with genuine reason I just wondered where you were. It is clear that sanity don't like you (thats his choice) and I am not going to try and defend him. Posting that picture was way out of order. Someones disabilities are not a laughing matter, Indeed my mother is disabled and if she became the butt of someones sick joke then I would go mad. Like I said, I hope sanity posts and explains his actions.
Please don't associate me or the magazine I am trying to start that picture/those comments.

Totally agree, my daughter has down syndrome and is extremely happy, intelligent and pretty(15 months old), however the point needs to be raised that this sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable!

Ok, I appologise for the lack of thought I gave to posting that picture.  I didnt realise that so many people would take offence at it.  It was not intended to take the mickey out of people with disabilities, children with Downs Syndrome or anything like that.  It was posted to make the point that it is exactly what it says on the tin.  I posted this image to demonstrate the futility of arguing on the internet! Winning an argument on the internet simply means you can put a case across better than the person you argue against and nothing more.  It does not make you a better person, or more able.

Obviously, I misjudged the tone of the thread that the picture was originally posted in. (As others have misjudged the context in which it was posted).  I appologise for the offense many people took of it.  It was not intended in the manner in which it was taken.

As an ex-nurse I have worked with many people who endure the insensitive and uneducated comments made by others about their conditions, including mental illness and physical disabilities, and I should have realised that the posting of that particular picture may not have had the effect I intended.

Oh, and MJH, your main beef seems to be the picture itself.  I thought the little boy in the picture was a beautiful image, full of joy at winning a race.  May his life be filled with such moments.  The context in which I used this particular image was inappropriate and thoughtless I agree.  Oh, and the word retarded is still used in American mental health literature to describe a person whos mental development has been slowed or reached a reduced level due to physical or psychological processes.

Not everything is how it seems? My own wife (the Boss) is registered disabled with MS.

Somedays she comes out with me and works her Butt off, other days she's bound to a wheelchair, I'll push her around Tesco's doing our shopping and we'll act like Lu & Andy off little britain :o

Its not taking the micky out of her disability but its our way of coping with it.
