Daz

With the low mileage you are doing on newer vans it can cause problems with the diesel particulate filter (if it has one), they burn off the soot when the exhaust is at high temps on longer runs .

Doing only short runs can block them .

so it would be worth you doing some research to find a van that suits and doesn't have a dpf.
They cost a bomb to replace(from experience with my volvo s40) and the vehicle will go into limp mode meaning you can't work.

James-do you mind if I ask how old you are?

28, why?

I thought you were fairly young. (I'm 31)
And was just gonna say, ignore the posts about the van being too small from those that wish to run their business in a different way to you.
You've got a great van, suitable for your work. You could do 1000l in a day with only one stop to refill.
Don't let the negativity get to you and crack on bud!

Cheers mate.

There was a certain criteria that had to be met in order for me to purchase this van, as I also want a van that looks the part, which this one does.

Ive done the maths with regards to payload, I know that the tank im getting Monday morning fits, I know i'll have enough room for the other equipment that ill need.

Im also scratching my head how ive made the wrong decision?!  :o

Jealousy perhaps?

Enough on my bad van decisions anyway, this is Daz's thread.  ;D

Not jealously fella just a observation.
I have the lwb dispatch so why would I be jealous?
I made mistakes with small vans before.
Just know what its like when you buy a little van and after a month you realise its too small.
All the best.
Takings off all first cleans till march 7th 2014
October  total=  cleaned  extra per month
November = cleaned extra per month
Total £  so far.

As long as you do it once every month or two :-)

Better if you can find one without a dpf though .

30K for car & around £23K for my transit custom as I lease the tranny for 5 years then pay a balloon payment and will keep it.

Personally I need a new van with no mileage as we do so many miles so gotta last me for many years, don't wanna buy van with mileage on it as it would be knackerd after a few years

We drive to Felixstowe, Cambridge,Dover, Leister which is 2 and a half hours away as we're based in Essex. Also cover east, north & South London so do lots of mileage and lots of fuel.

It's nice driving all these miles in comfort so guess I'm lucky really 👳👳👳

I'd rather buy cheap and keep costs down.very little driving about.good short flexible hours.

Better work /life balance and still earn well without higher overheads. :)

But Daz, you could buy a second hand with mileage and spend a fortune on repairs?

Ive always had second hand, and always spent quite a bit on repairs.

As this is my 10th year trading, my new purchase is a cheeky little present for myself  ;D

Funnily enough in my tenth year of trading I treated myself to brand new.
Just top the washer bottle up now and again,  service once a year,  never looked back.

That might not be enough my last motor which was about 4 years old at the time got to a point where the DPF became clogged every 3 weeks .

Failure to act promptly which is driving at a constant speed of about 40mph until the warning light goes out which means you could spend 30 mins driving around , After complaining numerous times  to the dealership i bought it from and which i had bought 3 previous motors from over the years i managed to get rid .

I would not buy any motor with a DPF no way no how . Mike

The most I have paid for a van is £995 for my current van, a 1999 Fiesta 1.8 35, bought 4 years ago.

The cheapest was £54 for its predecessor, a 1988 Fiesta Mk2 van.

My current van has had a fair bit spent on it, and just needs a few bits doing to sort it, although it is running well. Bodywise it's in excellent shape, and I have had numerous offers to buy it, but it's a keeper.

The Mk2 lasted 3 years in my ownership and cost pennies to run. I had another Mk2 van prior to that which was in better nick than its successor, and which I would probably still have today had it not been stolen and written off.

you will find i think that all new vehicles (diesel) will now have a dpf , some are better than others and they are improving but they are very expensive when they go wrong .
they can be removed but on some vehicle it needs to be removed from the software on the vehicle too .

they are a pain in the ass
