Dont give up, if you really want it you WILL make it happen!
I seen a loads of newbies recently, in fact saw 2 new lots today still doesnt stop us picking up work :-)
Starting out is a numbers game, the more people you speak to the more work you'll get.
-
I'm in the same position....its tough but I think the key is to do a good job and you will innevitably build the client list you require.....once you get over 100 customers it'll start growing on its own....neighbours and friends etc.......this is what I'm finding.....maybe think about doing another job part-time so you don't have to stress so hard on the numbers...then you can let it grow naturally wthout appearing stressed or desperate on the doorstep.....am in Kent too, let me know where you are if you wanna meet up, chin up fella, Peter

Sorry off topic, i cant reply to your email pete as it just keeps bouncing back...

Back on topic, we all have hard days but I travel all over the UK canvassing and there is work everywhere its just a matter of finding it. Some days are harder than others, today was not a great day but still came out with 8 new customers. There are 7 other cleaners on the estate thay I know of and some of the prices are really low but there is still new work to be had. Dont ever lose faith, I know it can be hard when you got so much riding on it but you CAN make it work...

how much did it cost you to get it on top?
-
It's amazing how many new customers you can get from streets that you've been doing for years; you'd think that everybody who wanted a window cleaner would have seen you by now but then someone pops their head out of the window and hey ho another customer.
I love this job ;D
-
It still amazes me some days, I did an estate yesterday that you would consider to be a prime target but came out with 14 jobs and only spoke to half the people on there. There is so much work out there....
-
sorry off topic, not sure why its bouncing back George, many thanks for letting me know, pete_lynch@btinternet.com, I'll mail you my mobile number....am about t/m if you text Ill call back, Thanks George

Magic
some days you will go out and it will be like picking apples from an orchard new customers where ever you turn - other times will be as barren as the sahara !
just keep canvassing - keep a record of the roads and who is in and out - you can then re visit the out's at another time.
canvassing is the quickest way to build your biz - drop leaflets as you canvass - never pre judge an area or road or house.
canvass canvass & more canvassing and you should get 100 + customers by mid april

Cheers for the advice,I got 3 in the end ,not the best as a one full house and 2 fronts, but work is work ,,I had some one text earlier was due first clean but now has no money, and 2 others who I cleaned just fronts have now said there husband is now doing it,I'm learning window cleaning carries some stress with it lol.:.............. But when I have a handful of houses and I'm out cleaning I love it.

Thats the advice! You absolutely cannot fail. If you knock on enough doors or deliver enough leaflets its going to happen.

Hi Magic, keep going my friend-dont get downhearted. Its really important to keep a positive frame of mind, the work will come if you have a positive attitude and customers will respond in the same way back to you.
Where in Kent you operating? If you want a coffee or chat if its getting you down, give me a bell and we can moan about the window cleaners lot together! :D

Everyone was there once, well the guys who bought a round were not quite the same, but just keep plugging on!
Personally you need 1 year to build a decent turnover then year 2 is all about topping up and weeding out the crap, like sorting out the under priced jobs, the buggers that you have to chase and chase and chase for payment etc etc.
I remember my first few months were like how the hell am i gonna make a living, i think my first day i earnt £63 for a near 10 hour day (Trad) and i was starting to panic thinking why had i jacked my £30k a year salary in!
But the more you're out and about the more you get noticed and you get people just coming to you and ask to do their windows when youre on a job.
Dont expect to build a good round over night it takes time just be patient it will come eventually.
You need to build numbers first even if they are not the best jobs or biggest houses, you just need jobs to keep you ticking over money is money at the end of the day. But try not to fall into the underprice gang, youll regret it everytime you go to do that job, everytime you pull up outside that house youll be huffing and puffing all the way round and end up not going back.
Keep going and good luck

Just keep at it I think that geting work isn't that hard if you keep going.
I do leaflets only the more leaflets i put out the more work i will get.
plus the more people that see my leaflets and search for me on the internet or use my web address on the leaflet the higher up in google my site will go until im on page one for all the search terms i want
once im on page one of google for the search terms i want i will get even more work.
Their are many ways to get good organic customers you just need to build things up.
Regards Paul

Before I relocated to Ireland last year, I lived and worked in and around Medway. Have you tried Strood? There's lots of work to be had there.
Best wishes,
John

Yes. I had lots of work in Strood , more than I could cope with so I sold it off. Loads of houses there and plenty of variety. If you try there you will definitely pick up plenty of work. ;)
I'd like to know how you get on.
Best wishes,
John
