I think I've finally had enough of these.
Today I have received a letter from them expressing their condolences at the death of the co-signatory of my business. They also state that they require further, signed paperwork in regard to this matter.
1) I have no co-signatory as I've always been a sole trader.
2 I have never heard of the named person (I won't put the name in case this post propagates and causes distress elsewhere).
Once again, Santander are guilty of crass incompetence.
If they are sending things to me about someone else's business, it concerns me what confidential info they may be sending about my business to someone else.
Also, it concerns me that someone else is being seriously inconvenienced, at a time when they may already be distressed, because they have not received a letter informing them of the next step to take to remove a former business partner's name from their business.
I think it may be time to say good-bye to Santander.
Potentially this is a serious breach of the data protection act. Fortunately, I'm not a fraudster who could use some of the sparse details in the letter to take advantage. Although theree wouldn't be enough detail in the letter to perpetrate such a fraud, there could be enough to allow further info to be extracted later.
This is a long line of crass blunders by this bank and I feel that I may have to move on just to protect my security.
I will certainly be sounding out the appropriate authority to make a formal complaint - though I suspect that may have to come from the other party - whoever they may be.

although ive had no problems with them myself, i've heard countless stories of gross negligence from santander. any bank who has that many customers is always gonna make lots of mistakes and give terrible terrible customer service. I always recommened the Co-Operative. No good for interest rates but customer service is brilliant and will only invest in/lend to ethical businesses i.e no arms dealers

I use Santander for my business accounts and all seems ok! Customer service is a bit poor, but with the Co-Op how do you pay in? As i always pay-in through the hole in the wall out of hours!!
Regards
Alan

Heard too many horror storys both from people with business and personal account with Santader, so i went with Lloyds for my business account.
Never had a single problem with Lloyds

what I cant understand is that you cant pay cash over the counter into a santander buisness account
Santander taking banking back 50 years :D

Indeed that ATM out of hours facility is the only thing going for Santander. I have been using Co-op just to receive BACS payments because they show the customer references whereas Santander didn't. Santander have recently resolved this but it took them a year to admit there was a problem and another year to sort it out.
Maybe leaving Santander totally might be a bit hasty on my part after all. Certainly the amount I do with them is gradually reducing though as people start moving away from cheques and onto BACS payments.
With Co-op, you can pay in at a post office - not always convenient as I work around many different areas.

They did this with me once - but did an instant refund when I phoned about it. Also, there were two other occasions when they announced they were going to do it but I stopped them. Check the statements (usually at the bottom) because they always give advance warning.

got to admit apart from the atm always being out of order ive not had a problem with them until this week i went in to draw out 900 sorry you cant draw out more than 500 without written notice i said thats rediculas its a business account i need the 900 to buy something she said you can draw out the 500 then go outside to the atm and draw another 300 i said thats even more ridiculas plus i still 100 short ???

ive just started with santander after my free banking with hsbc came to a end.
already i am findiing a few thing weird.ie the paying in of cash over counter,
i did get told this at meeting, with business manager.
i will be keeping a eye on every thing closely. ;)

They always give the feeling that they aren't quite up to speed. Things like money you have paid in takes anything up to a week to appear on your statement. Your cashpoint card runs out and they don't get you a new one until you go in and ask.

you get what you pay for in life.......there business banking is free(almost)
lloyds banking may charge after 18 months but you can deal face to face instaed of with envolopes and i know what i prefere when it comes to business

Agreed about getting what you pay for. They have already given me confidential info about someone else's business. They have given this to me free of charge and without me seeking it. If I pay them, do you think they might stretch to telling me their card details and PIN? ;D

I know they are no strangers to watchdog

They have wrongly credited £240 into my account then took it out again before they told me.
About 6 weeks ago they paid a £175 cheque Id written out but it still hasn't come out of my account. I wonder if they'll forget? 8)

any bank who has that many customers is always gonna make lots of mistakes and give terrible terrible customer service.
First Direct, with whom I do my personal banking, have millions of customers, make very few mistakes (as adjudged by the newspaper complaint columns) and give fantastic customer service (ditto). If they did business banking I'd not consider anyone else.
Big does not always equal bad. It sounds to me that this is just plain poor organisation and systems.

rubish bank shut mine down ages ago very poor service
-
I agree Vin. i've heard very good things about first direct, and it seems customer satisfaction is there number 1 aim. But i would argue that they Santander have about 10 times as many customers as first direct

i hope my cheques go missing more often now i got 10pound put in my account the other day as a sorry then today i was totally shocked as my local branch had me 6 bottles of wine in a box sent to me ;D

I hope they do the wine bit on me. I would have them hanging from the rafters for that (metaphorically of course).
How dare they try to buy me off with legalised drug pushing.

yes ial mention that aswell after ive drunk them though

I take it you have established it is Santander communicating with you and not a scam approach?
just a thought ;)

First thing I looked for - but thanks for mentioning it anyway :) .
The phone number on the letter is their's and I have only communicated by phone so far.
-
I mention this because I had contact from my Bank complete with the full letter heading, phone nos, correct logos etc which was identical to a genuine letter head - it was a scam approach. Just ensure you cover all your bases.
