Seriously though, what part of 'stay at home' did JC not understand?

Corbyn is over 70 years old too.  He should be self isolating in accordance with government advice.

By not doing so he is risking himself and putting more pressure on the NHS.

Stop clapping, Jeremy, get out of the streets, and stay at home.

You don't understand the government guidelines, do you?

Educate yourself.

It's important right now, what with the Chinese plague 'n' all that.

There'll be NHS staff over 70, too.

Don’t really see the point  ??? I have utmost respect for those that care for others but why applause? I think it’s probably a townie thing?

It's a way of showing your neighbours that you care.

No-one's done it in my street yet.

Ah. There’s a guy ploughing a field a few hundred yards away. I’ll see if he notices.

NHS staff need to be at work.

Jeremy is dancing in the street, clapping the Chinese plague all over the gaff; not staying at home, putting himself and the NHS at risk.

Only about 10 houses in my village. All out, well played neighbours. Well played.

Anyone would think I've never done the shopping before.

The neighbours gave me a cracking round of applause when I unloaded it out of the boot.

Cheeky barstewards.  >:(

Spoilt rotten: The Toxic Cult of Sentimentality by Theodore Dalrymple

"The fine traditions of this country are being eroded by the sentimental cultural hegemony that insists any feeling is by definition both true and something to be nurtured.
We now live in a world where the public demand vulgar displays of emotion and it is fair game to coerce anyone who fails to conform."
People's Princess, Je suis Charlie, Don't look back in anger. et al. Far more useful to have everyone text a few pounds for the NHS.

I didn't see any vulgarity or coercion.
And I think it's the sort of spirit, maybe not tradition, that we might have seen during the war. It's more of a show of unity than sentimental outpouring.

If someone thinks they are "doing their bit" by standing on their doorstep clapping or rattling a saucepan, then so be it.
I personally think it's all a bit silly, and when my Mrs was at home off shift last week she wouldn't even go outside at 8pm because she found it embarrassing.
Perhaps it's because she is the type who doesn't seek to be revered or put on a pedestal, which is probably not a bad thing considering she's married to me.
