Iknow these subjects are probably in discussion all the time but i dont pay much attention as i am predominantly trad on my residential work but i have a limited amounf of commercial and big domestic that i wfp

I did a sixth form the other day with an old xtel 40 odd foot pole and bloody hell was it hard going, maybe im just not used to it but was like holding a triple ladder ladder upright, couldnt move it around properly like i can with my 27 ft brodex pole on the lower floors, and rinsing was a night mare as the flex in it was so bad it was hard to keep it steady off the glass... so as i only need it for a few jobs dont wanna spend a fortune but might have too? what would be the best poles to go for to get good performance at that height, are the sl's the only option??

I changed to an SL-2 (gardiners) modular a few weeks ago for this height of work. It makes all the difference, really. Makes my 40ft carbon facelift feel like my old 40ft glass exel pole!!!!!

Very good pole for high work, light (one handed at 50ft), rigid, a lot stronger than it initially appears.

I would also recommend the sl2 or even the one from cleantech, telesopic poles at that height do create more whip effect.

Also use fan jets, you don't need to lift the pole off the glass to rinse.

what technique do you use then with these fan jets at this sort of height do you scrub up and down like normal then go from top to bottom in a left to right motion but on the glass???

I normally srub the frame and vents really well at first, when there is no mor edirt coming out of the vents or the frames, I then clean the glass in a up and down motion going from the left to the right.

If there are still dirt particles on the glass to can see the water running off these.

For a clean pane of glass the water will run down in a sheet pattern, if it diviates then there is still dirt on it.

With glass thats beads you just scrub the window a little faster, that way you can tell if there are dirt particles on the glass, the rest comes with years of cleaning at this height.

I'd love to have vision that can see dirt particles at 60+ feet high!!!!!

you don't look and see the dirt, you watch how the water flows down the glass, if there is something still on the glass the water parts at that point.

You then scrub that area until the water run clear.

i dont disbelieve you, but i wouldnt know the difference especially at 40 foot plus and this week the sun was in my eyes all the time sometimes i was cleaning with half an eye open!!

hopefully ill get that experienced soon, just need some more high work, and a more usable pole

You should always wear sunglasses when working in strong sunlight, if you don't it will damage your eyesight.

When you are cleaning windows that are lower to the ground look at how the water reacts when it goes down the glass, if there is an obstruction like dirt- bird poo even paint the water flows away from it.

You soon get used to how water behaves on glass and you look for this when you are working at height.

im going to start wearing my cycle glasses, they are anti glare and also prescription, i should be able to see much better then when im working at height plus ill protect my eye as well
