Advice on batteries and streaks
« on: April 13, 2010, 12:06:33 am »
I've been using a 12v leisure battery for the past 2 years. I also have a spare which charges in the garage while the other one is being used. Getting really fed up of having to change them over every 2 or 3 days and of having little power in the pump when it is running down. I asked at a couple of local garages about getting it connected up to the alternator but they advised against. I've got a 2007 Transit. There's gotta be an easier way of keeping the battery charged up! Anyone got any advice?

Streaks - We do wfp. A number of jobs i've been to have streaks that seem to be coming off the rubber seals around the window. Wfp never shifts it. Also come across a few where it looks as if wet cement hasn't been rinsed off properly and again it leaves streaks that i can't shift. Are there solutions/chemicals that wfp's can use to remove these stains/marks?

Thanks guys

Rob

I have relay's fitted to my vans such as this one on ebay ...Item number: 400110004373  Great bits of kit and once fitted (2 years ago) I have never thought about the battery since, it works fantastic.

As for the streaks. I have a few jobs where the seals are often a problem, I wash then rinse as normal, then wait a few seconds and rinse again only the second time I only rinse to the glass edge and no futher. it usualy works fine.

The "wet cement look" sounds like paint or plastic oxidization leaching from the frame. do the same as for above and it should be fine.
Its all in the rinse.   ;)

Thanks for that Jack.

Relay sounds like the way to go. I'll speak to a couple of mechanics tomorrow to see if they can fit it. The guy I spoke to in the Ford garage a while back was reluctant as he thought the electronics on the Transit would play up if the shurflo pump switch in the back of the van was left on by mistake inbetwen jobs. Would the relay switch off the pump automatically once the van started?

Streaks - believe me, I have rinsed them till the windows were gasping for air, but still no good. It seems to be etched right into the glass.

Thanks Jack

Glass- probably mineral staining, could be from rain which has run from stone/brick/mortar above window. it won't come off with wfp.

Battery- If you use a varistream you can just plug pump into cig' lighter socket, job done. ;)

Is there a solution that i can buy which I can put on before wfp?

I wasn't aware of a varistream before now. I just have an independant 12v battery and a 100psi shurflo pump with a basic on/off switch. I'll look into it - thanks

I got a relay and pump controller fitted but still have to charge every week or two. I only work locally so don't really do enough miles. It keeps it topped up though.

Even with a relay you battery will still need charging up from a battery charger now and then.

Why is it a problem to change the batteries over every night?

Reaching parts traditional window cleaners can not reach.
