After a horrid experience with Yell and promising myself never again to go down that avenue, yell is back.
First the sold me a package over the phone they didn't deliver and after several phone calls and letters to me demanding payment the finally decided to send me a credit note as an apology.
Now they are back. They are selling first page on Google, now how many companies are going to sell me first page on Google? The amount of companies selling first page exceeds the slots and even if the the pages are random and exact placement cannot be guaranteed I am sure it would not be possible, then again it could be with some coding trickery from the Google masters.
Anyway with my credit note the cost to me is £120 + VAT so I said OK tell me about it. Well, what it is or think it is, is simply a listing on Yell's site with bullet points, photos and a few more dressing then an optimized business card (OBC) for placement on the first page of Google. All that for around £520 plus VAT.
So I asked this wonderful wizard of a sales lady to explain to me how Yell is going to get me on the front when Google can't unless I pay around £2.50 - £6.00 per click for a term like "carpet cleaner" or "carpet cleaning". She said Yell paid Google £100,000,000 for the privilege so I said oh I see. Now the next thing was she said on the OBC I can have a unique number that's monitored by Yell so that they can prove to me that the advert is working, so I said, can I take the number if I decided to cancel after a year and she said no. So I said oh, well I want the number and she said I can't so I said well I would have to use my current business number, in which case I would never know if Yell is working because they can't monitor it.
Anyway I will ask her next time she rings if I will be able to track Yell feeds to my site from this OBC using Extreme Tracker.
Has anyone else been through this new deal with Yell?
