Royal Mail has stopped deliveries to a house in Leeds after postal workers came under attack from an elderly cat.

Tiger is said to have scratched postal workers and chased them down the garden path at his home in High Bank Street, Farsley, over the past few weeks.

Owner Tracy Brayshaw, who must now pick up mail from the nearest sorting office, said the ban was "a bit silly".

She added: "We're talking about a 19-year-old geriatric cat here who likes lazing out in the sun."

Mrs Brayshaw, 43, a pharmacy dispenser, said the black-and-white cat slept for 20 hours a day but was always ready to pounce on unsuspecting staff.

'Not a monster'

She said: "There have been three incidents where Tiger's jumped through the cat flap and is said to have scratched a postie, so they've decided to suspend our post.

"He's never done anything like this before."

Mrs Brayshaw's daughter, Amy, 17, said: "Tiger sleeps, he drools when he sleeps and he likes climbing trees, but in the space of three weeks we've had our post banned because he has attacked the postman.

Tiger is said to like lying in the sun and climbing trees
"Apparently he attacked one postman on the leg and on the arm and chased him down the garden path.

"He is very territorial but he's just an average cat really. We are all saying it's health and safety gone mad.

"He wakes up in the middle of the night meowing because he just wants some attention. He's not a monster."

In a statement Royal Mail said: "We are sorry for the inconvenience to Mrs Brayshaw and, as we want to resume delivery of mail to her address as quickly as possible, we're trying to agree a way to do this and avoid our employees suffering further nasty injuries, as has happened three times already."

While on the subject of cats - did you know their bite is one of the most dangerous bites you can get to humans.

I was bitten on the ball of my thumb by a cat a couple of years ago.  Very painful but I washed the wound thoroughly etc.  A day later it had gone a bit messy.  As I couldn't remember when my last tetinus jab was I called in to the local hospital as I was passing.

When I told reception it was a cat bite they got a doctor down immediately.   I said the bite was only on my thumb but he asked me to roll my sleeve up.  There were red led lines tracking up my arm to my shoulder.  The doctor called for assistance.  I was taken to a bed and pumped full of antibiotics and blood samples taken on a regular basis plus an ECG.

It seems that the serious infection was heading for my heart and I was close to becoming a gonner as it would have damaged my heart valves.  I was let out the next day feeling unwell due to the massive amount of antibiotics etc.

So....   If you ever see red lines tracking from a wound, get to a hospital immediately - it could be fatal.

Look at my avatar pic to see the lasting effect it's had!!

Clearly you don't like cats then.
I'd say the same about dogs.

I was bitten by a dog on friday afternoon. I thought i would make the most of the light evenings and knock a few doors. I wandered up a drive and rang the doorbell, an alsation came round the corner barking. The owner followed, as we chatted the dog kept barking, i thougt it would be ok as the bloke was there. Suddenly it dashed over and got the bottom of my leg. I didn't think much of it and got the job done before going to the pub. Being a bit sore i had a look, mates were horrified, and sent me off to a & e. I thought I would need a jab, but they don't do that these days, just strong antibiotics. I now have a big bruise and a scabbed over bite mark. Next time i go I will be ready to give it a good kick in the teeth for its trouble.
£15 quid for half hour work, 2hrs A&E plus diesel. At least i got the job
if it is dirty it is fair game
