Hi SCS

Truvox do a good quality backpack www.truvox.com  also Numatic also do a backpack vacuum.

If you are wanting to stay with the tub vacuums, ask your supplier for the turbo brush attachments, you will find the pick up is allot better.

Hi,

Ive posted on this topic before, I really dont think you can beat a Nilco 1207 upright vac, loads of members recommended the sebo bs36, Ive now got 6 of these, but in my opinion the Nilco is a better vac.

As far as back pack vacs go, unless your into aircraft cleaning I dont see the point in them.

Hi SCS,

Back pack vacuums are an important addition to your armoury as they will cut down on time in most situations, and especially stairways, small spaces etc.

There are several manufacturers of these, Nilfisk, Truvox, hyper vac. These can be quite powerfull machines and certainly worth looking at especially in terms of versatility.

Check out this web site for information   http://www.pro-team.com

If you are looking for an upright vac, try the sebo dart 1 or 2 very powerful machines available from solutions UK

Hi Derek,

It’s a while ago since I tried a backpack Vacuum cleaner, it was a Karcher, your right they probably are very good for large stairways (subject to the length of the power cord) but to be honest I’m not convinced, if I told my staff that they had to strap a Vac on their back they would run a mile, with regard to the sebo dart, yes they are very powerful machines, but the 9.5 metre cord length is rubbish, don’t quote me but the Nilco is 13.5 metre’s, this does make a big difference.  As Ive said I now have six sebo bs36’s if they made the leads a bit longer and the machine a bit lighter they would match the Nilco.

Hi Paul,

I now what you mean, the cord lengths on some of these machines do sometimes leave a lot to be desired, especially when you are in an office environment and all the sockets are allocated with computers etc. I am not familiar with the Nilco machines so unfortunately I cannot compare with the Sebo.  A lot of my contracts have lots of stairways which we used to do with tub vacs, this was actually a balancing act with keeping hold of the vac while trying to vacuum at the same time. When I introduced my first back pack machine it actually cut down on the time spent doing these contracts by 50% or more, which if you add up over a period of a year is a huge saving in labour costs. and allows you to get extra jobs done in a day.  My staff were a bit dubious at first but after the first week they never looked back, I would not now be able to get them to use tub vacs.
And it is not just stairs, they are great for zapping around the offices, quick and efficient and as most of the carpets are low profile I find a wand much better to use than an upright beater vac. I have used a few different makes over the years and they have all been very powerful with long cables enough to get up at least three flights of stairways.
Some of the models do have their design faults so you have to try them out in terms of comfort and durability, I sent one model back because it did not come up to the standard I required, it certainly did not live up to its hype.
I use the Sebo dart 2 mainly for domestic carpets before cleaning the carpets, I find it lightweight, easy to carry from the side handle, and excellent for digging out the grit and bringing up the pile. Plus it has the s class filtration for keeping hold of the allergens which is vital for my business.
