Completely lost in translation, its now being sold to newbie’s as the art of extracting as much money as possible from clients per job irrespective of value or skill. Some great examples of this can be found in the window and carpet cleaning areas and proclaimed as normal business, which is absolute rubbish.
Always amused by some of the statements used to qualify these “try it on” prices and what people think will do it which only represent the trademark of an idiot, such as:
" I only do a good job"
Great, then you might get paid for it!
"I only employ trusted staff"
Ok so we can expect your "surprise" when they screw up!
"You only get what you pay for"
Looking at the quote, we take it that will be all up front then!
" We are the best there is"
Of course, all the others are there just to make you look good!
"I have 15 years experience"
Clearly then the van was exceptional value!
"The difference is I’m a professional"
Why would anyone disbelieve that after all you’ve stated it!
So what are the qualifications?
Experience or skill.
Investing £100 or £50,000.
Earning a living in an old van or running a 500 strong empire.
Managing a team from an office or out there cleaning a window.
Knowing how to forecast budgets or how to charge by the foot.
Qualified training or qualifying silly prices.
You decide, but professionalism is assumed by prospective clients, nobody thinks they are calling in a cowboy and anybody who tries to qualify stupid prices by using lame excuses of being a professional is in fact a “cowboy”.
Newbie’s:
Use your own judgement about what you are reading on forums like these and who is writing. These are great places for fiction and egotists and can be very confusing and frustrating places when you are trying to get started. Remember some people’s idea of being successful is limited to a few rip offs and enough beer to get them through the week.
