i have a 5 section 30 ft unger pole.i currently use 3 sections as a trad pole and ive an unger brush kit with pole hose that i use on custys outside taps for conny roofs etc.the problem is when i go wfp this pole might come in handy for 3 storey work and very large houses with deep ledges but this unger brush is so damn heavy.its ok for conny roofs and cleaning the car with but 30 ft in the air?too heavy!!can i buy an angle adaptor/brush/hose thatll fit on the unger pole thats a lot lighter?


im planning on getting a brodex hydra alloy pole 25ft for my normal run of the mill work and use the unger for the odd higher windows on bigger properties.

personally i dont want work that is over 30ft so the unger pole should suffice for a while!

anyone else still use these poles for the odd higher job?

Daz, a Harris pole from B & Q would probably be more suitable than a 25 ft pole for your domestic work.  You don't want to lug a 25ft pole round when 15ft would be more than adequate for the majority.  But this 25ft pole would probably reach a lot of average 3 story work combined with the height of your own body.

And yes, you can get unger fittings to fit a brush on the end of your Tele pole (I take it that it's a Tele?).  Is there two holes at the end of your thinnest section?  If not, it's simple to drill the holes to take an unger gooseneck.

I'm sure Matt or Jeff will be along to help more with this though.  And the Tele will be okay for occasional use, even if it is heavy.

yes its a teleplus tosh!i was thinking of getting the 18ft hydra but i might struggle to reach some windows above conny roofs!

incidentally do any of you use a small 3 step stepladder to stand on for extra height when cleaning the windows above a kitchen extension with the pole?save getting the ladders out and getting on the roof??i have quite a few that ill struggle to reach with the pole because of the height of the extension!

they work well and last for ages

for using other brushs, just go to wintech and look for a Unger Cone - Insert

It really depends on the conservatory roof, but it's pointless carting round a hefty 25 ft pole all day, when you only need it for one window during your work load on that day.

You use the lighter smaller one (such as the Harris, which I think is a great disposable pole), and when you need a bigger pole for certain windows, you go and get that one.

A small light pole (I DIY'd mine) for ground floor windows is great too.  Soooo easy you'll feel like you're ripping off the customer because there's so little effort involved.

tosh i do have a small 2 section optiloc pole that i can use on bungalows but really id like to wfp tops then do the bottoms with the same pole!i dont want to be faffing around with another pole all the time for bottoms!18 ft hydra i think.collapsible length about 6 ft but im 6ft 2in with very long big arms so i dont think ill have a problem with using it on downstairs windows!

It's another personal choice thing, I much prefer using a small pole for bottoms. Click off and click on, it's as quick as that, and the tops need to stop dripping anyway so no time lost, but a lot of time can be gained using a small pole where access is tight.
Some cons are really close to fences and walls, a real pain to do with your main pole.
I too started off WFP with the Teleplus, very whippy at maximum length, but you can use just 3 sections for an 18ft pole.
Tosh's advice on the Harris pole is sound, If you apply a heat-gun onto the black handle it will pull off, your Unger tele base section fits over perfectly giving you an extra 5ft, but that's not all, your unger no 1 section is a perfect fit at the other and, and fits inside the Harris giving you another 5 ft if you need it.
For £15 the Harris has to be the best buy of all time, If the clamps start to slip, just undo the cone and wrap a centimeter wide strip of plastic coke bottle round the claws, tighten back up and it's like new again.

External pole hose to keep things simple. Trigger to minimise water usage. Always finding ways to improve things.

I picked up a brodex alloy pole at windex. It looked a quality pole, but I thought it seemed very heavy compared to the unger. I don't know how they actually compare on weight.

I use the first three sections on my daily work and use the last two on the largest property I clean. When fully extended it is very whippy. I believe there is a way to use two number 5 sections to extend it further, but I haven't found out how yet. If I do, then I will chop the number 1 section down to achieve the height without the whip of the thinner section.

I don't use a small pole, although it would be handy when space is an issue.

i forgot about the cleantech cone, the only issue i had with it was the weight, i have trimmed my vikan right down in weight AND use the fishing pole, thus adding that cone would have put the weight back on, BUT saying that, it wouldnt make much difference to the unger ali pole

i have had wintech cones fail on me in a few weeks, then again i have had them last me over 2 years

for a few quid, its not a major issue, i allways have a few in the van

I will have to weigh the unger and cleantech versions. I can't imagine there is too much difference as the cleantech version is alloy and machined so it is hollow inside. I have had mine for about 2 years now and it is as good as when I got it.
