Using wfp in rain-does it make a difference
« on: March 29, 2010, 12:14:48 pm »
Is it ok to wfp in the rain , after all we leave them wet anyway . is it just  a psychological thing.

Well its more of a...do the customers want there windows cleaning in the rain....
Rain water is pure water...the reason why some harvest there own.
So technically it wont make a blind bit of difference weather (LOL bit of a play on words) it rains or not.
But explaining this to your customer is a battle. They simply hate there windows cleaning in the rain so depends how you want to look at it. Some would drop the customer and carry on in the rain or respect there wishes and wait for the rain to clear. i personally would respect there wishes.
So basically your choice!

actually rain water down here is 35 tds so it is slightly dirty, better than tap water anyway, youve got air pollution messing it up.

and also you get wet in the rain, which aint much fun.

I have a full round, and will be working everyday this week in the rain, I worked in rain yesterday, if it rains today I will work in it. try it you may be surprised it makes no difference to resuklts, guarentee your work to customers (if they are in) it really is that simple.

if your trad  you have to sit and watch when raining as cloths all get wet, but wfp there is no excuse

ive got 300 wfp letters to type up and pick my logo d polo shirts/fleece up from shop.hopefully theyll have them finished and done by the end of the day.should of picked them up yesterday!

Rain water is ALMOST pure, I have checked a few samples of rain water and it ranges from 015-022 on the TDS metre.
I tell my customers that once the windows have been washed a couple of time with pure water they can be washed in the rain, I even tell my customers that after the windows have been washed with pure water, any rain that lands on them afterwards will dry in the same manner as the pure water.

Mogsy the TDS of rain might be 035 on the TDS but when you are washing with pure water and then rinse with pure, it will in fact dilute the rain water, bringing the tds down from 035 to around 010.

to me the real question should be "can i work in high winds".

its just my opinion but its the wind that makes windows dirty not rain. so if its raining i work. if its strong winds and rain i dont bother. even if its just windy with no rain i will pick the work i do carefully.

the only time ive had to redo a house was for a west facing house and conservatory, and i had to concede it was a right mess. it wasnt raining that day but it was a strong westerly wind. the east side of the building was spotless by the way.

however with all that said the customer will never agree with my logic ::)

must be hard for you windys in scotland.you get a lot more bad weather than us in manchester!we ve got the pennines that shelter us from some of the worst weather most of the time!

when i look at the weather forecast, scotland( 9 times out of ten) seem to get the worst of the wind/rain/sleet/snow ::) ::)

i'M RAINED SLEETED AND WINDED off today ,I'm in Edinburgh and we usually come off better weather wise than our west coast nerighbours in weegie land. Usually the crap comes in from the west and most times I can get out and get it done before it arrives.
Saying that this winter the majority of the white stuff was coming from an easterly direction.

My water proofs got tested today   :), and my customers smiled when I cleaned there windows and it waS HAMMERING IT DOWN THIS MORNING AND AFTERNOON., because they love me  ;D.

Has taken time to get to explain to everyone the facts of working in the rain.

The things that many on here forget, if you work in the rain the customer if not explained correctly may not like it, BUT how many times a year will it rain when you clean that customers windows ? (maybe once or twice a year is the answer) you guys thats sit at home do it, I will earn money whilst you are as well many normal reliable window cleaners  :P

Does it make a difference??

Hell yea, I get more wet ;D
not if you get the right water proofs, I only got wet today from sweating a little, there is a very good reason I kit my uniforms with baseball caps (thats a tip that some can figure out)
