Advice wanted........
« on: March 22, 2010, 03:52:23 pm »
Hi,i have a woefully slow 200gpd system,made slightly better by a booster pump on it,but still taking about 8 hours to make 150lt of pure. Had enough now,want faster so here i my options;
1 Add another chamber, and upgrade the existing membranes to the 150gpd membranes making it a 450gpd system.
2 Get a merlin system
3 Get a 4040 system
From what i have been reading the merlins waste a lot of water, and a 4040 setup is a bit of an overkill for a 1 man band!
Not using a load of pure in a day, maybe 150/200ltr
What would you do?

I had a similar problem a few years ago.

Have you recently changed your pre filters or membranes?
If yes to membranes, did you also re-new the flow ristrictor?
This is what was wrong with mine, RO man told me to always replace the flow restrictor when changing membranes.

Might help?
Why not talk to whoever supplied it?

It's only a year old, haven't changed the membranes yet,pre filters get changed very regularly.
However,if i was going to change them i would use the 150gpd's.
But still left with the same problem, upgrade what i have or change?

I'm trying to figure out why your current production isn't enough for you as it seems to be making nearly a days worth of water in 8 hours.  Although we are talking different numbers (I use quite a bit more water than you) my RO takes about 16 hours to make a days worth and I always have plenty in hand.
Anyway, if you want more water the upgrade to a 450 gpd  should be fine I reckon.

I can't understand why it is taking 8 hrs to produce 150 litres of water specially if you have a booster pump attached. i ahd the same problem after 1 yr and some 6 mt i hadn't changed membranes or filters, so i decided just to buy a 450 gpd instead of the 200gpd i had, i still use a booster pump because water pressure isn't enough but now i'm producing 1000lts an ibc tank full in around 28-30 hrs. so it's allways there for the next day, i woudn't change to the more expensive stuff if you can turn your 200gpd into a 450gpd then definately do it and save money i didn't know that could be done. cheers.

Dont know why, gets flushed weekly, pre filters changed, its allways been that slow though.  >:(
Water pressure is around 45psi,hence the pump, and tds is around 480,not sure if that effects it in any way,the lower tds before r/o the quicker it produces?

OK I see now.  Never occurred to me it was in the van.
So what's the maximum time you would like it to take you to filter a days worth of pure?

I also have a 200 gpd and find the delivery is slow. The thing I cannot understand is no one asks litre per minute your booster pump is? The thing if feel is the ports and pipes on these filters is just to thin to deliver more water the pressure is for the membrane but the lpd is for speedy water delivery. I have seen a 450 liters per day with 2 pumps and 3/4 hoses at £275. on e bay to me this is a better system. The 200 gpd is for drinking water and to slow.

Get the ro and anything associated with purification out of your van and set it up at home with a static tank. Transfer pure as and when i need it. That frees up everything then.
I would then just get another 100gpd membrane to make it 300 gpd. With a booster pump i was getting almost 1000 litres a day.

it could be the pump.

That sort of thing would annoy me, hence why I went straight for 4040 membrane now have 2 and make plenty of water per day.

Lower your stress and go 4040 Jarvy ;)

I'm local to you if you want me to have a look.
