What you are tryng to say i  tihnk is that you are not going to charge double for the first clean.....i think you will find that a lot of other wc's dont charge anymore than that anyway,ok if the windows are really filthy then fine especially if you are doing the frames as well.
If you are looking for a marketing strategy i would go down the route of a better service to the customer rather than pricing in to get a flood of work....just my opinion...good luck to you though. :)

i never charged extra for  1st cleans when i started out and on the whole it always worked out pretty well,
however there was a percentage around 1 in 10 that cancelled just as you got to the door for the second clean - usually these were people with very dirty windows and awkward access.

since 'surcharging' or 1st cleans then reducing to 'special' 4 weekly rate thereafter i cover the extra time it takes to 1st clean and as yet not had any 1 time only charlies.

if you want to offer discounts then give give them 20% off clean number 5 or have a rec a friend scheme with 50% discount as a thank you.

What do you want people to say about you?

A - He's the best window cleaner around here.

B - He's the cheapest window cleaner around here.

If I were you, I'd want A. It's A that's going to get you recommendations. It's A that's going to get people talking about you in a positive way.

What I say to my new customers is that I don't charge any extra for a first clean no matter how bad the windows are. I say, "It's an investment that I make in you as I can see that you're going to be a good, regular customer."

People like that. And if they like

   (i) you and

(ii) what their windows look like when you've finished,

then they'll say sentence A to their friends.

Deliver the quality and keep your prices high.

And don't advertise on low price. If you want to mention money at all, advertise on high value.

I think you'll be flooded with one off calls and dumped shortly after. Need a better incentive that suits you not the customers.

Never negotiate on price, its your profit. If you must, offer more for there money you will not make less profit. Extra afford will make your custies happy. The minute you negotiate on price and buy business you have set a president telling your customer that you are soft on price and you will flex in this way. Rather say with all window cleans, you will clean, frames sills and doors FREE! This will tell your customer that you will make extra afford to impress them.

Very good & spot on! ;)

If the customer thinks you're desperate (which your advert would look like) they are more likely to mess you about IMO. You'll get all the tight gits! ;D

clee...

i think you need to do what you feel will work, but as i said earlier you can really get mucked around and you can not hold people to 4 weekly cleans after the initial one.

whats wrong with a discounted 5 th clean ???   or give new custy's a 'voucher'  worth £10.00 off a conny roof clean or facia clean

then you get more work out of the deal.

I aim for a target then offer large discounts until i reach that number.

Eg If i wanted 100 customers i would offer the follwoing discount
1) First 50 customers get 50% the first 3 cleans.
2) Next 25 customers get 20% off the first 3 cleans
3) Next 25 customers get 10% off the first 3 cleans

I would also offer affiliate schemes like reccommend a friend and get a free clean. This way you will have them pouring in. Set your prices at whatever you want but make the customer think they are getting a good offer.

ALWAYS include Buy Now or For A LIMITED PERIOD. make sure the customers have the incentive to buy now instead of thinking on it.

These are little offers i use when canvassing but just remember once you have past the first 3 cleans your charging full price  ;)

Good luck

Clee. they will take you up on the offer, get the first clean half price and then cancel before the next one is due. bargain offers only atract the worse kind of customers.
if you want to due an offer to get work how about:
free clean but done by half price cleans on the 4th and 8th clean.
loyalty cards 10 spaces on stamp per clean full card free clean. prices 10% higher and it costs nothing.
discounted add on services. cheaper fascia cleaning if you are a regular customer.
personaly i dont like any first clean offers it comes over as desperation.

I think offering some kind of incentive is a good idea, but to expect a customer to wait 4 or 8 months is not going to attract any business.
People want a bargain and they want it NOW!
All succesful businesses offer some kind of scheme to attract customers and I dont see why window cleaning should be any different.
Sure discount schemes may atract some chancers on the make, but as long as the numbers are small so what. if your round is building then its working as it should.

Hi Jack,

i agree - every business requires incentives to attract customers and their is nothing wrong in that, but Clee asked a question on this and i posted my experience on first cleans.

it can be heart breaking/soul destroying to clean a house, do all the hard work make very little money on it to find the custy cancels next time   then only to hear from them several months later asking to have another clean

in a perfect world we could all do intrductory price cleans and all customers would be honourable and use us for many years to come, but it does not work like that

part of being in business and making it work is getting good customers who pay.
