Hi Chaps,

I have been asked to look at a few primary schools lately and to be fair I don't do lots of commercial work so need some thoughts on pricing. I went to look at one today and the place is like a maze carpets everywhere in all types of shapes and sizes and not only that but furniture/equipment everywhere what is a fair price to charge per square metre I know she has asked a few other companies so don't want the catch 22 situation of going in far to high or way to low! Will need two people for sure so much furniture to move all thoughts welcome please guys :

If you could bonnet clean then you can go quite low £1 psm. Sell your service on quality, safe use of chems, enviro friendly or whatever your unique selling point is. You will regret pricing low just to get the job as you will resent it all the time you're cleaning it estimate how long it's going to take, take the figure you would be happy with per hour and price it that way.

You will need a second person (water boy) dont forget floor ares of schools are enormous, you dont want to be walking to the cleaners cupboard there and back with clean water, dirty water time and time again etc etc, plugs arent allways where you want them, a second person is invaluable, they will do things like that for you.

I allways price it that the rooms have been pre vacced  by the cleaners and chairs are up, if chairs are down its X% more. That way the rooms will be prepped for you. School I do the caretaker puts all the chairs on the vinyl round the sink so its a clear room and its reflected in the price.

Whatever you are you paying your helper per hour, + 50% to cover insurances and costs, then add that to your hourly rate.

if the school carpet just needs a light clean i would charge £1/ yrd. cleaning and stain removal £2/yrd. If carpets are covered in gum/paint vomit etc i would charge £3 to £4 +for  cleaning them. The only way to really price these jobs is on time, work out how many days work and charge say 250 a day labour + say £100 expenses. (portable prices) 5 days work at these prices is good co co but doesn't neccessarily  equate to any particular price per yard.

Remember price the job at what you want, not just to get the job because unless carpets are in lightly soiled condition, there's an awful lot of work involved 
which you may live to regret if priced too low. i have based this on a one person operation.
