Polypropylene School Chairs
« on: March 17, 2010, 08:37:51 am »
Morning guys,

I have been getting lots of calls at the moment from primary schools wanting work done during the holidays ;D but had an unusual request i need some thoughts on.
The headmistress wants 100 chairs cleaning that are used for assembly, diner etc that have got grubby especially after diner times. She has told me that food has got embedded into the chairs as there are small dimples all over.

Has anyone cleaned this style of school chairs before and if so what method have you used for best results??? I was thinking of a good steam clean perhaps ???

I immediately thought of Solution's STS...Spray on and leave for 10-20 minutes then cleaned of with a microfibre cloth. God knows how much you'd charge though, £1-£2 a chair ??? Who knows?

Then again, a weak solution of degreaser might just do the trick!

That was the other thing cost! Should i charge per chair or on time? My first thoughts is that this could take a fair amount of time so needs to be worth my while :o

When I get to quote such jobs as this, I offer to do 5 "Free" of charge (for example), clean them, time it then you get a good idea of how long/much it takes/costs :) ~(Not forgetting to add the "Free" chair cleans in with the total cost ;D)

I have done these a few times, i use a dry steam machine, fitted with a triangular brush.
Mist with a degreaser, and go over with steamer.

The steamer accelerates the degreaser, and generally removes the grime easily.
Wipe dry with a terry or microfibre cloth.

Charging is the difficult bit, try an hourly rare you would be happy with,
but charge for consumables on top, just work out how many you can do in an hour.

Ultrapac renovate hot, pre-spray 10 mins dwell then rinse. Put them outside for an hour in the sun to dry

You mean the plastic chairs?

Take outside pre-spray and then jet wash would be the easiest method.

I was cleaning some carpets in a primary school and the cleaning lady asked me if I had some ideas for cleaning the same type of chairs. M/S did a good job but I then fetched some Viro Sol well diluted and it worked an absolute treat. I buy it from a local supplier but the manufacture is here. http://www.cloverchem.co.uk/uk/products/hard_virosol_uk.htm I'm sure a supplier nearby will have it. I think it's about £7 for 5 litres and is a really versatile multi surface cleaner. I use on EOT's alot and it smells great ;D
