resin life span
« on: July 10, 2005, 09:47:35 pm »
Iv`e just started to produce water for wfp with a merlin ro,the tap reading is 315 and after the merlin it`s 24,im hoping to add a booster pump so i can get my tds reading down with the merlin, how long should a 25 ltr bag of resin last in a 29.9 ltr vessel if im using about 200 ltrs a day with a tds reading of 24,and what is the best type of pump to use to transfer the water from stored water through resin then ready to use in 25 ltr containers.

i thought i answerd your question on another post....well a 25ltr bag of resin will last you between 12 - 18 months.as for pump i have two shurflo 70psi fitted into van on each reel this is more than enough pressure and if you add another pump to your in line before your merlin remeber the quicker you put the water thru the quicker you will change your filters and membranes.

without your merlin you could expect a 25ltr bag of resin to last you 2 weeks if your not using a filler before your output.
thus costing you 80.00 every two weeks.if you had a filler tank first the same size then would last 3-4 weeks but then its 160.00 per month. if your merlin is reading between 20-30 you would get 12-18 months and only paying 80.00 plus extra water costs.im on a meter and i have done all the figures possible and i fill a 700ltr tank in under 4 hours at a cost of 0.89p(including waste) x 5 days per week =4.45. x 52/12=19.28per month in water plus a little for drainage. If you turnover 150.00 per day x 5=750x52/12=3250 so if your water bill comes in every 6 months divide 1 bag of resin (18 months over 6 months =26.66 per 6 months, water 115.68 but turnover 18,720 compared without merlin £160.00 every month x 6=960.00 without the water cost and without the hassle of running out of resin and having to wait for delivery etc etc

you also need to use your stored water because it will probablly add another 001-003 onto your tds after a couple of days.
