Forgot to remove my reel last night and there's some frost about on some of the cars out there.  I might have to unwind it, put it in the living room, and stick the gas fire on for a while.
Oh well. I had an excellent earning day yesterday (did a load of commercials on a Sunday) so it's not all bad.

That may have been a better way but I've done it now.  Apart from that that I used the last of the hot water on a morning bath so I've put that on again for when I get home later after work.  I need to pop out for a while so I'll just leave it in front of the fire.
Do you unwind the reel when you give it the bath treatment Matt?  I ask this because I've noticed from past experience that they tend to be more frozen nearer the core.

When I go out to the van in the morningafter a frost I run the pump for 2 minutes to make sure its full right the way through with hot.

We blow out our reels using an air compressor. We are lucky enough to have a compressor on site which makes life easier. We were down to -22 in January and even with the reels empty they still froze as soon as water went near them.

Blasted weather. Hopefully we'll get a roasting hot summer. Then we can all moan about the heat..................................................

I don't have the luxury of a hot water system.  I may get one eventually but if I do, I will do it at the next van change.  I do drain the pipework at night in the cold by running the pump dry and allowing water to feed back into the tank.  I then blow the pipe clear.  At least this will protect the pump even if it can't start straight away.  I had meant to bring the reel in last night but just totally forgot about it.  I had already brought the battery in for a manual charge up (split relay doesn't always keep up with my useage).  Now I'm just having a skive as I'm worn out after a big day yesterday.  Will get a decent afternoon in though.

preparation! check local weather the night before, get heater for the van leave on a frost setting,insulate the tank to keep in the warmth. aquarium heaters to keep the water in the tank warmish.
  -6 at 6am this morning when we started....no problems.

Suds I know.
I laid out the hose and connected up. pump just cycled with a air lock. Took just a couple of mins to sort and in that time the water in the hose was frozen. I had the oil filled rad on in the van all night

On windows Vista and Windows 7 you can have a gadget on your desktop which gives you accurate day and night temperatures for 3 days in advance. I use it all the time, and I haven't been caught out by the frost yet.
