Tds from tap 220 (also use water softner after tap)
Out of merlin 19
Out of DI 000
Pressure 30-45 depends on temp

Just changes the pre filter and tds shot up fro 19 to 35 after merlin.  But then after a couple of
 hours went back down to 19 phew.

I always check the readings from both before DI and after DI every time i go to fill up.

When I first run it the reading is always 100tds coming out of the merlin, but after runnig for abpout 10 mins does come down to 19 again.

I always run this down before connecting to DI to protect the life of resin. 

Does anyone elese do this, or do you just pulg it and leave to fill?

I've got the 300 gpd system but always wait till tds from membranes lowers before I link up the resin, think mine initially goes up to 140/150tds, after a min or so it's back to 5

the reason your TDS is high when you first switch it on is because of "ion creep".

When the ro is not running the ions creep back through the membrane to the pure water side.

I used to wait for the TDS to drop before connecting to the resin but I don't bother now.

I wouldn't worry so much, my merlin is still great after 2 years and I've only changed the prefilters once!

Your pressure is low though, your TDS and output will increase dramatically if you got a booster pump. My TDS is 220, pressure 80-100psi and without a water softener I usually get 10-18 ppm.

I still wait for the TDS to drop - I can busy myself for five minutes while it does and I reckon it saves a bit of resin too. Mine's the 300gpd Ro-man type.

Yes, I usually go get the battery on charge while waiting.   But as I have to wait 10 mins to run the salt out of the softner before I connect to the ro, i usually faf about for 20 mins wasting water before filling the tank.

But am sure it is worth doing to protect the merlin and resin.  Just though I would see how others do this on here.

Have thpough about a booster, and would it make much difference for me?  I can get my 400lts done in 3 to 4 hours.

Does the booster reduve the tds form the ro? adn reduce wastage ?

Dave good post,  thats exactly how i understand it,  you can get a flush tank, but i get the impression it's no different to letting the merlin run for 5 mins before connecting to the di and van

mine starts out at 140 ( from tap 380 )  but soon drops to 14

yes a booster pump will lower the tds but i think youll be ok with the tap pressure if you can fill 400 ltrs in less than 4 hours

i've boosted mine from 30 psi mains pressure to 70 via pump and in the very cold weather it takes just over 4 hrs for 400 ltrs and the tds is 14 - before the cold i could fill it in approx 3 hrs

I don't actually bother disconnecting from the resin myself.  It's a bit fiddly as it's tight for room around the other side of the tank and as it's someone else's gaff, I don't want to risk spraying water about.  If it was my own place and maybe a concrete floor garage or similar than I probably would disconnect for the 5 minutes it takes to settle down.

I just hook up a second waste hose to the hose I disconnect from the DI using a connector.
