Hi all,

What is the best way to secure an 8ft A frame ladder to roof rack?

I have got the spinner type clamps for the extension ladder, but not too sure what to use for the A frame.

I used to put one clamp on the extension ladder, then lay the a frame on top and secure with the second clamp. Never had a problem.

Thanks for the reply, & I will give that a try.


I am wondering though, if it is worth buying another set of ladder clamps, or finding another way of securing for speed reasons, rather than having to remove the A frame & lock it down each that It is not needed.

You could use a 2nd set of clamps. Make sure that they will both fit on the roof bars at the same time, because it will probably be a tight fit.

i use the ladder clamps!when A frame  not in use i leave them just loose on the roof rack unless its windy then i tie them up a bit on the other side of rack so they dont blow away! :

Yep, never leave them sitting unsecured on the roof bars when it is windy. Otherwise you will get nice scrape marks all down the bonnet when they get blown off. Ahem...

been doing this job over 10 years and always used travis perkins luggage straps never had a problem used them for holding extension ladder and a frame on and off in 30 seconds

My clamps have padlocks through them when the ladders are on overnight or unattended in suspect areas. But if someone really wants them then they will find a way to get them. I can think of at least 2 methods which will bypass the security of the padlocks...

I have got some clamps from Midland ladders for £20.00 which included locks & P&P, & I have a garage aswell to keep my motor in, so it will be secure overnight.

I think I am going to have to get another set though. I am just thinking about the time, hassle, spinning clamps up & down & locking them, whilst using just the one set.

I am all set to go really, & going to make a start on the 15th March, but plan to drop leaflets before this.

I`m a bit apprehensive about the canvassing side of things, & getting my first custys, but I am sure this will soon disappear once I have a few under my belt.
