Well today I attended a task, two bedroom apartment, one room - the en-suite -  had paper carpet  and the other had Sisal.

The Sisal had stains, nice size spots.

The poor tenant has to clean the thing before they leave. I laughed, I had to. Well, I was honest, what else could I do but charge for call-out. Gave them a nice vac and did a bit of damp wipe in a few areas, and it surprised me by coming out looking as if something significant has been done. Couldn't do much about the stains in the Sisal.

I could not think of a cleaning method for the paper. Everything I could think of would have damaged the wax they use to produce these things. The Sisal had cellulose browning (it seems more bronze brown than brown), she said the previous tenant had it cleaned so they insisted she should clean it too.

To be honest it wasn't in a bad state.

I am trying to upload the photos off my mobile but I keep getting an error message saying the upload folder was full so I can't share them.

I never came across paper before.

Sisal I don't usually have a problem with.  If you carefully lm it you should have no problem.  Stain treatment is also possible.  No  it doesn't give it the same clean as HWE but the best you will get

Paper - yes have come across it a couple of times.  As you said, a darn good vacuum & then I have towelled them with a microspitter.  Not my idea of carpet cleaning - but then my idea of arty farty interior designers ain't that great either

More money than darn sense! I couldn't believe it, it was on the bedroom  floors of a rented building not a family home. Imagine if the tenant was a party head and don't like removing their shoes?

Surely an over sized pencil rubber would be enough to sort the paper carpet out

Paper carpets are actually not that hypersensitive to water.  The paper or actually the thin wood shavings are treated with a resin before being spun into yarn & subsequently waxed to make them that more water/liquid resistant.

If you look at the manufacturers sales speel - you will see that these carpets are 'naturally soil repellant' : - Yep - tell me another

Read all this earlier, I was surprised that the entrance to the en-suite was in super condition. So I did thought at the time that the carpet was stronger than I thought. It seems better than the Sisal quality wise and definitely looks wise.

The paper did grow on me after a couple of wipes and I noticed the difference when it dried it looked ok. The Sisal, well I need more practice on my own. The problem is my local carpet shops don't sell the thing. I am going to get some paper and try some gentle HWE and see the outcome. First I have to find the carpet, never seen it in any of my local shops either.

Have a look in Waterstones they do a good range in paper backs

I suppose you could sell the pulp from your waste tank to the recycling centre

or check your filter in a couple of hours and you'll have a lovely sheet of A4 to invoice the custy

Paper carpets are fine to HWE. The 'new' areas round the edges are not really affected, the worn areas just change a little in appearance. Just don't scrub them.
