New trailer recommendations?
« on: March 03, 2010, 06:31:56 pm »
I'm looking for a trailer to make an additional system that will carry 250L and have a payload of about 350/400kg But I also want to be able to lift that system out in it's entirety so's I can use it for other things like camping, bikes, log collection etc.

I also want it to fit under my car port on it's back edge and so I want overall length of about 7'3" max (internal about 5ft). Would you go to Halfords, look on line or what?
Prolly new cuz a good 2nd hand one is hard to come by without driving to deepest Norfolk or what have you.

I think you might strugle to get a 5ft trailer that is only 7ft 3in as that only leaves 2ft 3in for the A frame or draw bar. That will make it dificult to do tight turns.
I can remember when waking up stiff in the morning was a good thing.

I'd go to Halfords, find what you want then look for a second hand one quick 'cos the silly camping season will be here soon.

Got one today in the online trade-it - the plate on the side says:-

1. 600kg
2. 499kg
3.   75kg

I think this means that the Axle's gross carrying weight is 600kg inclusive of the trailer itself.
And that 499kg is what it can legally carry.
And that 75Kg is it's own weight.

It's just what I was looking for - galvanised jobby that can be stored on it's end - in fact a bit higher in the payload area. And it comes with a tarpaulin cover.

Oh yeah forgot the price - £160, so that's about a third of the price of a new one - so I'm well pleased. And it's tax deductable too!

I used to use one of them small galvanised ones. I bolted a piece of ladder across the top, front to back, this was used as a kind of roof rack for my trolley, and it still left enough room for my 10 containers and battery box underneith.
I now use a small box trailer, and again I'm making a rack for the trolley, I'm also putting a hole through the front so that I can put the poles inside, trying to avoid carrying any cleaning stuff in the car.
