What size pole for a 3rd storey house?
« on: March 02, 2010, 12:52:22 pm »
I was wondering what size pole I would need to reach a 3rd story house?

I have the choice of a 18ft, 24ft and a 30ft pole, but it will be my only pole, so what one would make it awkward to clean downstairs with?

Basically, what poles best for a starter, and hopefully reaching 3rd story.

Many thanks
Jake

out of those i would go for the 25ft. thats good all round size.
are we talking 3rd story as in , ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd then 3rd. or just 1st 2nd 3rd?
if its the latter then 25 will reach fine as long as the ground is not sloped away a lot or you have to go over a conservatory.

Hi Jake
I use a 35ft slx pole with no problems for 3 storey houses.
I think if I had a  30ft I would definately come up short on some of my 3 storey work.

I think there is often some confusion on here as to what the 3rd (4th - 5th - 6th) story is.

As already said, I think when asking the question, it's important to make it clear exactly what you mean by 3rd story/floor.

Sorry, i meant as in you have the bottom fllow which you walk in, then the upstairs, and the one above it. Like a town house

25ft will be good for that. i would say go bigger as it always comes in handy but if its you only pole, 30ft may be a little heavy for every house use.

I had a second floor window above a bay on an old Victorian house to do today and had to use the 40' SLX.

I think it's a mistake just to have one pole for everything.  Most of your work is likely to be two story, so why use a 25ft all the time when you will only need it for the few three story jobs?

Over a long period, using a heavy pole can have serious health implications.  An 18ft pole needn't cost a lot - plenty of advice on here about converting a Harris pole and you'll be amazed how much lighter it is than a 25ft.

You can also make a simple 4ft pole just for ground floors.

Totally agree with Ian on this one.

I would personally get a 25ft and buy / convert a harris pole. You could swop the brushes over if your on a tight budget.

90% of my work I can clean with a harris pole. About 8% is 25ft and the other 2% is a 3ft pole.

I use a 5 section 24 ft pole. It's high enough for the 30 ft work but collapses small enough for the ground floor. It saves carrying numerous poles.
