Can I put BLEACH in my tank?
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:34:17 pm »
My strainer lasted 10 mins today before it was blocked again with algea!!!!! >:( >:( >:(

Got to cure this once & for all.

So, will bleach do the job? anyone tried it?

Had to work without strainer today & let the DI's filter the algea, not too good for pump though.

I would first work out why you are getting algea.

I don't intend to run the system with it in. What I'm thinking is put bleach in tank, fill up, leave for a day then empty & flush it out with fresh water.

Would this work though?

Ok guys thanks, I'll get some Milton tomorrow.

Can only think the reason for the algae is white plastic tank. Grows in summer then killed off in winter hence my water being full of it. It's almost microscopic mind, I'm not talking chunks of the stuff but my strainer is very, very fine mesh.

It's happened to me before but emty tank & a good flush with hose has sorted it in the past, not this time though. :(

My tank is filled from mains as I'm DI only, on demand.

After the milton, rinse thouroughly with a hose and then paint it black or enclose it in lightproof black plastic.

I disagree.

I regularly put a cupful in my 175 litre tank and it has never affected the TDS reading. It's still always been 0 ppm.
