Oh my days!Hideous job!!
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:31:02 pm »
Been called by an estate manager to clean a house windows inside and out, only 12 windows but the tenant specifically wants all the mould cleaning off all the rubber seals around the units (can only think bleach would do it????) and as you open the window she wants all the grime cleaned off the insides of the ledges where the metal hinges are!! looks bad, so i said £200 and they said yes, but im starting o doubt if that will be enough, as the grime is pretty bad.
Is bleach right for the mould????
Any ideas for the insides of the units and hinges???
Thanks in advance ::)

Although it adds to the cost have you thought of using a steam cleaner? Perhaps you could pass the cost on.
I have used them in the past to great effect.

If the mould has"taken hold" you may never get rid of it. Bleach will not remove mould, neither will cillit,and neither will mould remover if the mould spores have started to grow into the rubber. Mould is not dirt it is a fungus type that will eat into surfaces leaving them damaged. Would cover yourself saying that you may be able to treat the outer layer of the mould (if lucky!), but that it may have already damaged the seals.  :)

my misses uses dettol mould and mildew remover,  just spray it every where,  stinks so have the window open,  dont let it dry on cloths    she use to use it on caravans, to clean them,  i would cover the frames in it leave it  5 mins then brush off and rinse off

Yes. I do alot of cleans for a builder ( in & out) and it gets everything off of the plastic and glass that wfp or scrims don't. Only about £5 in B&Q so have a little go at home 1st!

if the mould is in silcone around the windows you wont get it out.
 you will have to replace it..
Thanks, Andy put that disclaimer in! :)
