As an employer, Ronnie, you should have researched this before you started employing.   As I recall you deduct the amount of SSP paid from the NI total you have to pay to HRMC, but it's been a long time since I was an employer - I'm sure plenty of others will put you right.

Just google SSP. Sure something will come up which will help you.

Correct ian,

You deduct it from your monthly contributions.

I could do with 2 imaginary employees on the sick contantly :o :o

i will have to check with my secretary but i thought the employer had to pay the sick pay for the first 28 weeks and couldnt claim this back unless it was over 13% of the total the firm pays in national insurance, after 28 weeks the government pays the sick pay
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

1  what does there contract say about ssp when they are on the sick?

2   you do not have to pay SSP,  tell them to take it to the DSS and they will pay it for you,  the only reason compnayies pay is so they can claim it back,  its about £68 a week
