For those of you that have installed hot water systems in your van how much has this added to your van insurance,

I have checked my insurance and it does not cover me to carry flammable liquids which gas is,

What happens if your boiler is faulty and explodes wiping out your van if you have not notified you insurance company your insurance could be null and void best to check this out lads i would hate for anybody to have spent a fortune and be left with nothing

hitman, It is just not that what if they have an accident and the insurance then find you have a hot system installed and have not notified them you could then be in big trouble! insurance companies will try everything they can so as not to pay out,

Caravans motorhomes with gas installed have to have gas saftey checks for insurance purposes this will i would have thought to be the case with hot water systems as you are carying flamable liquid,

My dad had a motorhome for years. He sold it three years ago when he had to stop driving at 90 yrs. He never had to have any checks done for insurance.

Today I rang up A-Plan insurance and asked them about putting an L5 in my Expert. They checked and rang me back to say the cylinder would need to be bolted down in box etc and no increase in premium.

If i were you i would ask your insurance company to put this in writing,
check your insurance and it should tell you that you are not covered for carying flamable liquids

When i had my new hot system fitted, A-Plan asked if it was diy or installed by a company, was the system cold or hot, i said hot, then was asked if it was diesel or gas, and if the system was strapped or bolted. They assumed being installed by a company, it was bolted to the chassis.

if you have a diy one then your insurance will not cover it unless you tell them of any modifactions,   one wrong piece of wiring and it could go up in flames.

As far as I am aware gas is not a liquid.

if you put a heater in your van, ask your insurance to come and look at it or send ur van to one of there garages to be checked, that way they cant say it wasnt in properly if you have an accident

ok, a corgi might be good enough,  i only said it as i know ins companys will try and get out of paying out,  i was with direct line on a car and if i changed any thing i could get it checked at there approved garage, to give me an agreed value

i would hate to see some one lose the van of an ins company worming there way out
