Yep. The only cure I found was gloves.
Do all the good you can, and make as little fuss about it as possible.

Get some coloured electrical tape from B and Q  and wrap it around pole that stops it. I did that to one of mine.

How can tape or shrink wrap stop the carbon dust? The base section is the only one that wears hardly at all  ::)

I agree, But could I not wrap each section of the Slx and avoid wear.
Something thin but tough? Think im going to look into this!!

I don't know about the Brodex but with the SLX its not the base section that gives you black hands, it's extending all the others.

Yes, its the same with brodex. Base is fine, its just when you extend.

Don't get black hands but I've noticed (and more importantly Mrs K has noticed) that my hands are a bit like sandpaper these days.

Not wanting to sound gay-as-F@#k but what is a good handcream?

You need gloves. That pure water is eating your hands.

The pure water is just cleaning your hand like it does a window.Use atrixo hand crean. OR take hand cream any one and put a small spoonfull in your hand and add suger and pub oyur hands as if washing. this will hake off the rough skin, then rince and put on a frest application of hand cream.

I'm 90% trad but do use pure water when the need arises. But you're right the pure water does feel slightly corrosive...or is this just my imagination?
