Colour Ad in YP or not ????????
« on: June 29, 2005, 10:40:33 pm »
Got Yellow Pages chap coming tomorrow. Anyone found that having either a colour or black and white ad in the directory made any difference in response at all?

colour, photo or black and yellow I've had em and it makes NO difference, stay black and yellow and spend the difference of bigger ad or multiple ads in other directories or sections etc

The YP stats are manipulated to suite them a bit like the government

Waste of money, spent £5000 on half page colour, no chance it paying for itself.

Find something better to spend your money on, and as already stated don't believe the spee.

YP is the most overated advertising there is as far as I am concerned.

I spent £2K this year, and what a waste of money!!!

I had a mouthy rep come round to tell me what I need who didn't have a clue.  The 118 247 is "THE" biggest waste of money in the History of advertising ( I advise everyone to stay away from this) plus the web advert which I have the big one for 3 years now is also a complete waste of time.

I get more decent work out of Parish Mags. at a fraction of the cost than YP, all I can say is thank God for recommendations and repeat business because dont rely on YP.

As for colour v Yellow/Black I agree with Shaun YP will tell you it makes all the difference, well it dosen't, spend the same money on an advert twice as big in Y/B if your going to go in it.

I had a quarter page in YP last year and it cost £2500 (black on yellow) and returned £17000 so do not tell me it is a waste of time! I have gone half page full colour this year at a cost of £4500+ and already it is pulling quality work in. Maybe the content of your ad was no good, I spend days compiling my ads and change them when I receive the proofs (this year three times and last year four times).
I have been using YP for years and it has always paid dividends. I booked two YP enquiries on the phone today
(£270 and £55.00) and one from my van sign writing (£45.00). God I love my job!!

Hi Guys,

I think its like any advertising that if you stick with it , you learn what does and doesn't work.

My first 2 attempts were hopeless but Lloyd Owens who sold me my first machine used to swear by it.

My third attempt was much better and I now know what works for me.

Cheers,

Doug

I spent £2300 on colour ad with YP and they mucked up my copy so left with an advert that contains a dead weblink and makes me look a liar  :o

Still arguing over who pays for the mistake, because i am not paying for an ad that is not what i asked for ;)

I Do not rate yellow pages either...95% of my customers found me on the internet...worth a thought...build a website...and go to thomsons local instead..from the research i've done, most people i've asked have chucked their yp, as is was to big and bulky.
