And the DP (Dealer Principal) gets paid a % monthly bonus on monthly profit. So every bit they save means more in their pockets. They will never make a decision based on what might happen 2 years down the line. After all they probably won't be there anyway.
I can remember we didn't have heating in our showroom for the remainder of one winter after the boiler packed up, and it wasn't replaced until well into the winter of the following year, and only happened after the CEO visited. Our DP had a fan heater in his office and didn't care about anyone else in the showroom.
IMO there's a greed culture that has crept in to most sales and services companies.
