Has anyone tried these poles? A new larger and lighter pole is wanted, we want the super MAX40 so if anyone has one can you let us know what they are like or any pitfalls with them.

We don't want a modular pole, I think they are to time consuming and you run a risk of breaking or damaging even loosing sections.

Just my opinion because I'm sure they a good pole but with the clumsy women I work with, I don't think they would last 5 minutes, so its one pole with clamps for us, at least I won't have a 10 mile round trip because someone failed to put a section back into the van lol.

Hi jeff,

got the 47: mostly use the first 5 sections, like all the time. The whole pole useful for 3 storey veloxes set back.
Impresses people & gets work. Itseasy to get up as the lengths are short but is a tad heavy on the arms at full stretch. Careful, your clumsy girls could get strong & lump you!

Thanks Kev I'm sure it can't be as heavy as the extel Hybrid one out at full stretch over a conservatory or extension but if I use the top section of the pole it becomes very whippy   

we don't have much 40' work but sometimes over some extensions it comes in very handy.

I don't get into conflict with any of my girls because they lift a full omnitrolley 35 up into the back of the van  besides have you ever won any thing against women?

jeff i got a slx 35ft and that covers my needs, im not sure if he sells them i think the highest slx is 30ft but worth a call to alex to see what he can do, he turned my 30ft into a 35ft for me.

yea i use to use it everyday untill i got the 22, but yea its a good pole im glad i got one or two now

I believe they have been pushed in the USA instead of the SL2 which is getting broken.

That's what I'm worried about Jeff, I don't fancy spending out for an expensive pole that will easily be broken so a clamped pole is a must.

Pure conjecture, but a full carbon telescopic pole wont last long because of the friction so maybe you would use a cheaper but stronger and heavier glassfibre mix like a kite pole, to take the friction and last a bit longer. Not trying to be negative just debating. As I aint seen either poles up close.
 I would trust Smithys view though as he has the SLX and has loads of experience of modulars.

Moot point, jeff. Though after 13 years of wedded my lass can now say, very rarely mind, sorry without adding "but" afterwards!
All sections of the Max are amazingly stiff. Not sure about mr brimbles point on wear as the pole does stay pretty vertical on erecting so the sections do glide out.
Seeing I use the complete pole three/four times s month, I reckon the bottomhalf (expensive bits!) will last me around 10 years. The top 5 will be lucky to see 3.

thanks mr brimble, the new design of clamps are far better than older versions, the pole gets discolour quick and you would think it is getting worn out but far from it, the thickness of the wall is about right, the clamps seem to be a key point to the life of the pole, i remember i had a old ionics carbon some years back that got worn very quick, i think the slx is a good pole, i don't think i could have done any better make in one for myself, in fact it is close to my project tele carbon. an the clamps are better than the ones i first used,

Ok so apart from the slx If i was to make my self a fishing pole one then what would be my best option?

I'm not sure if I can pick up an old one but it is possible from this guy  http://www.moonfleet-angling.com/  he is my next door neighbor and he owes me a few favours and he builds all types of fishing rigs, so I can get a new one from him, I just need to know what to ask for and I want a good one.

you need the mk1 grim reaper pole by maver or shimano powerloop, from old stock there thick walled an strong yet light.

Mention "Margin Pole" or "Hit and hold" and elastics of stronger than 20 and he may have an idea.
