Quickest in a few hours is adwords, or as Matt said, but takes more time . you can pay firms to help or a good seo book, so sometimes adwords is better.
Where do you want to be the top of, eg Manchester or national

The quickest way is to pay for add words.
also get your name/number on local search
getting first page google is not hard keeping it there is a little more tricky

Adwords is rarely cost effective in our industry. Basic search engine optimisation is easy and free & will give better results. whats your website address?

Follow what my first post said  ;D

Page ranking takes time, its a recognition in a way by google of the importance of your website, Ian at window washers has a site with a ranking of 2 I think, good linking from other sites is helpful, especially sites with a good page rank.

Mine has a page rank of 1, most on  here wont get above 0 with their page rank.

Google ranks itself as 10  ;D
