Spoke to a local cleaner today showed me his leg, black and blue, possible broken ribs as well

hes been cleaning for years and recently his ladder broke so started using a domestic ladder , he set it up on a slippy deck, for a roof 2 storey up on a 3 storey house and went to step on the roof off ladder !!!

2 rules at this time of year:

1) No ladders on decking
2) No roofs

i pitch my ladder most days on green decking,but ONLY as theyve got ladder spikes on them. Even so ,thats very bad luck for that guy , hope he gets better soon

I am trad as well and constantly risk assess. Even so, I have made mistakes and have had a number of minor falls, but only have myself to blame when this has happened, and still have no intentions of changing my methods, only my appreciation of the need not to be complacent. Even so, it's a shame that there is a need for some wfp'ers to have a dig at us trads whenever this happens.   
We are all trying to make a living to keep our families, and we know the risks, so why the constant sniping? I hope the guy who had the fall is going to be alright soon and his accident doesn't put him off.

ive fell off twice but not for 10 years at least now.i really dont understand why other trad guys dont get extension poles and use them on all 1st floor windows when its icey/snowy and for difficult windows.ive been using them for years!i will still be using them for certain windows even when i go wfp as wfp isnt suitable for every window or working conditions.i can honestly say ive never had a complaint in all the years of using them on 1st floor and 2nd floor windows.(and this is using them on domestics as well!)

there is no way i would of worked today if wasnt for my unger pole/angle adaptor!

You cant get much truer than that.

I did a house yesterday where the decking was lethal on foot. That stuff is a death-trap if you risk using a ladder on it.

i also know of windys who use old knackered ladders with rungs missing/old scrims/no safety equipment.some of these have been going for years! : ::)penny pinching and trying to get that extra day out of the ladders rather than buy a new set. : ::)TMOP sleeves with rips on the end of so the bare T BAR is scraping on the window.some people just dont care or seem to have any common sense at all!

id never go 2 storeys up and step onto a porch style slopy roof  as it reads above thats what he was probably doing.


could be  his fresh ladder was one with creppy style rungs too.only yesterday i  saw one like that laying behind a custys house. the rungs were round and thin, and it was a very narrow ladder ,a suicide ladder if ever there was one . hopefully that type are banned nowadays

It seems to me that the most dangerous moment is when you step off the roof onto the ladder and commit your weight to it. If its going to go thats when it would happen but you are already past the point of no return and can't go back.

Mind you, I don't think I ever would have gone onto a second floor flat roof.

it was a daft thing to do

hes a nice guy he cleans alot of stuff in between what i do

he was out working yesterday its a miracle he survived hes one of those hardened trad guys who doesnt believe in wfp so i told him to either get help or stop cleaning daft windows

he is giving up the house where this happened though

shame though that it had happen could of been worse

ive not had an incident with my ladder since the early days , you should learn quick enough whats good and whats not ??

Isnt it odd how some people are so set in their ways.

The guy should be dead, is lucky as hell he isnt dead and if it happens again there's no reason to believe it wont be dead. Is he brain-dead. Has he got kids and a wife?

what amazes me is that we only have to cope on it once or twice a month the customer struggles on it everyday why dont they use the right treatment
