Toe in the water, what machine ?
« on: January 29, 2010, 07:16:03 pm »
I have been asked to quote some work for one of my WC customers, for a bit of Carpet Cleaning.

What is a good not too expensive machine which will do an half decent job.

Ninja, from Ashbys in Kent someone described it as the "Ford transit" of carpet cleaning machines ive had one for a few months now and think this is accurate its tough you can bang it about getting in and out of van its powerfull for a porty and most important with the steamate it very very hot so cuts through all the grease and crap only problem is the supplier  not the most customer friendly :-X if you want good customer relations Alltec or Restormate the guys at Retormate second to none. :)

The Ninja is not the cheapest machine though although they come up on ebay from time to time as do other machines

How do you rate hydromasters machines ?

Another question, how do you deal with dog pee on a carpet, I have got a communnal area to do which is riddled with dog pee .

Will this give me problems ?

Depends what your budget is.
Where you are based - yes you are near to Hydramaster who are mainly truckmounts, but in the same complex and having ties with HM is Solutions Cornwall and they do a fine portable and good customer service.
But their are many decent machines about.
As I say- depends on your budget - is it hundreds or does it stretch into thousands (the top portables new are in the £2-£3 thou range pliusa bit for ancillarys.
What about training?.

If you come to Helston school in the morning (Saturday) at reception, 10 O'Clock, you can see the Alltec Advance in action....

All i want is to cater to the people who give me window cleaning work, i feel if i say no they will look elsewhere to have there windows done.

I will maybe do the odd communal carpet once a month, cant be that hard to learn can it, i am prepared to practice at home.

Carpet cleaning isn't rocket science, but I would strongly advise some training first. Only then will you be in a position to determine which type of system would suit you best.

If you think about it, even in window cleaning you have a varied choice of systems and brands and that is for cleaning a consistent material: ie glass (am I being a bit naive here?)  With carpets you have natural and synthetic pile, ditto for backing materials plus different adhesives, underlays and installation systems. That's before we get into high and low pH pre-sprays and rinses, alkalines and alkalinity, solvents, alcohols.............How would an untrained person know what system and chemistry to use?

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Sounds as though you and Colin are going to get on great, why not sub the work to Colin, if he's agreeable, and go along as an associate. You could make a percentage and learn as you go and the experience you'll gain is worth a fortune. Exchange cards and promote each others business, we really should be doing more of this given there is a large window cleaning section and carpet cleaning section ready made on clean it up. It would not suit everyone but some would benefit.

hi dave we use the ninja 400psi machines and find them brilliant a few years ago we had 2 alltec machines and found them very awkward to manouvre in customers houses we also had lots of problems with breakdowns due to poor fittings and connectors as said this was a fair few years ago and they may well of now solved those problems, as for your question on dog pee this can depend on what fabric the carpet is on some wool carpets it is impossible to move but you can make the stain a lot lighter, other fabrics it is removed easily i find it best when inspecting carpet to point out to customer any stains you may not be able to remove completely.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

This is for some agents on a communal staircase, so i reckon it would be a tough polyester carpet, cant see them using wool, could be an 80/20 mix, they are more concerned with getting the smell out ?

Is there a solution i can use for the smell

will do, be good to catch up

Clynton

i have helped countless window cleaners over the years, even got a good contract passed to me for helping out. I think the people who are most successful are the ones who help each other.
