Finding staff
« on: January 29, 2010, 10:49:15 am »
Where is the best place to find staff? We have tried Job Office and some of the online job boards with no success and are now considering agencies but are struggling to find those who work non skilled and non administrative type roles. Newspapers are very expensive so there must be somewhere out there that offers good value for money while providing a decent number of suitable candidates.

Anyone would think people didnt need work  ???

Pretty much all my staff have come through the job centre online, however the quality of them has changed dramatically since I changed my advert a year ago!

Attracting great people is the same as attracting great customers, you need to know who you want to work for you so you can target them accordingly.  One of the early mistakes I made was trying to make the job look attractive to them and forgetting that it was me that was choosing not them!

What attributes should they have? Number One is they MUST LOVE CLEANING.  If they just want a job that pays better than macdonalds then you don't want them.  Be really specific about the type of person you want to represent your company and write your advert aimed at them.

Also, get the job centre to filter the candidates for you, so you don't get so many time wasters who are only ringing because the job centre made them.

Another tip is offer them enough hours to make it worthwhile.  2 hours per day is hardly worth driving to work for, but 4 hours plus is a decent part time job.

Best of luck
