glad im not WFP!
« on: January 13, 2010, 10:56:56 pm »
at the moment with the sheer amount of posts about freezing hoses/tanks/pumps and all the faffing about and expense im glad im not!

when i do eventually get a van and  a set up i think ill just use it say march-october then revert to trad for the cold winter months!

what do u think guys?do u sometimes think things were simpler and easier before WFP?

If I was still doing trad then I still don't think I would be working except for bungalows maybe. Though with recent temps the water would still freeze on glass regardless.

Not having a pop

but i think once you change to wfp, tnen your custy's might get confused when you switch back.

i.e custys will start saying "to be honest i prefered it when you worked on ladders; can you just do it the old way"

sorry are you ladders and trad pole alot also?

wfp, is a pain in the ar5e i must admit at times, but it's safer and quicker most of the time.

you can still trad downstairs if you want i do quite a bit of downstais trad, especially at the mo'

dont wat to put too much water on the floor.

the is a terrible winter!

we may not see the likes of this again for 10-20 years.

on the other hand if it happens again next year i think a lot of us including myself (i hope ;D)

wont make the same mistakes twice.

i reccomend backpack and static tank in shed or garage if you've got space or if not have your setup at someone close by.

mines at my parents i have 200gpd system in parents garage, rather than muck about with heaters etc, i just bring ro-system indoors, have 625 ltr tank; fill up lasts 3 days.

plug system back in to run when temps ok. (only do this odd occasion, this yr ro in out all bl00dy time)

daz i love trad and do wfp as well. but heres how i see it last winter, i was able to work trad when it was frozen temps etc but the ground was clear. but this year i managed back to work today as the ground is still iced up but temps are up so it wasnt a problem, i purposely have a split of trad and wfp work but to be honest the weather beat me this christmas trad or wfp. in fact  ground conditions are still saying to me trad is out for next couple of days so i am planning wfp work to survive. so i wouldnt rule out any method

Hate trad , saw a guy doing it today, downstairs only as the snow and ice was too bad....

i did a full house without effort whilst he did the downstairs... its only water...it dont freeze if you keep it warm...

its the long standing snow and ice on the roads which have been the problem this year.

forgot to say i just fill up barrels, put  in van with backpack, also have freedom trolley.

got backpack 2 months ago and find using more than trolley.

had minor accident in van not my fault; at menders.

got hire van through insurane.

If i had vanmount system would have been buggered.

my setup can be moved out of one van and straight into other.

also barrels can be bought indoors if you had too.

Other thing hire van no roof rack, seems real problem for courtesey vehicles to have roof racks.

still need ladder for some of my jobs,
getting onto flat roofs and over gates, but getting by without it.

Keep it cheap simple uncomplicated, when you changeover daz.

No offence meant you seem to over anaylize wfp.

I am that way about most things  ;D and especially when i was changing over to wfp; i asked millions of questions you'd see from my old post; went wfp sept 06.

I still ask millions of questions :D

I do spend quite a bit of time on my system, but this is mainly because it's not at my place.
as it's at parents, so to and thro a bit.

would love to move to bigger place with garden and off street parking.

I use to think having a vanmount systen was be all and end all.
but to be honest i don't think i'd be that much quicker than with backpack.

thanks lee

you are kidding , i ripped both my backpacks to pieces, .. i hated them lol truly

what can be more simple than dragging a hose  from the van turning water on and splish splosh....

some say that backpacks have a use...for awkward houses... ??? whats an awkward house?

and what can be easier than taking that hose round that so called awkward house?

i know that my days of filling a backpack up every house or two.... and humping it around, and 25l containers everywhere.... are one horrible memory.

I've had no probs today in the falling snow (-1). I've been using a screenwash mix that'd done the trick and it was fine.
