HER HUSBAND DOESN,T LIKE HIM ?
« on: January 11, 2010, 08:08:57 am »
Gaot a call yesterday to do a quote on a 4 bed house,  as lady was giving me address details I knew right away where the house was as I pass it often on my round.

I told the lady this but also told ger I have see a w/c cleaning there and her windows always look spotless ?

oh yes she replied,      weve had a w/c for the last 3 years but my husband is on garden leave and he doesn't like him.

so what if he don't like me ( hard I know but you never can tell  ;D )

I said sorry but I ain't prepared to take a job on only for your husband to get another w/c

I know business is business but there has to be some degree of fairness and taking a potential problem customer on is not my thing so told her it would be best if she got someone else.

During Summer last year I was asked to quote for a property and when I was there it turns out that they had a window cleaner, and they just didn't like the guy.  Now I know the window cleaner they're talking about, and I know him to be an abrasive chap.

So I gave a fair quote and took the customer and they have been model customers.

I'm certain that a large proportion of people don't just buy your services, they pay for the 'tradesman' too.

I probably would've quoted, unless I knew and was friendly with the other window cleaner concerned.

One word : History

Perhaps the current window cleaner and wife were on familiar terms !!

Spot on Tosh, It's the tradesman they choose by and not the job or price. Which is why well mannered window cleaners can get away with higher prices.

So for all you grumpy $odds out there take note.  ;D

Steve isn't he likes a bloody good laugh, but can't stand people who slate people who just voice an opinion or think they are superior to others.

You silly sod Steve_c!  ;D I was agreeing with Stephen s - read it again - I say to Stephen s "Well observed" as in "you perceived that situation well" - then I put a semi colon to indicate a pause/change of thought and said "he sounds like trouble ..." referring to "the husband".

I cant see the problem with the husband not liking his window cleaner at the end of the day its his property, for instance my mums old window cleaner use to turn up with a hoodie on, right proper pikie chav, she didnt ask him to do them he got the round off someone else, sometimes he would turn up with 2 smack head mates, so maybe theres more to this.

Just because he doesn't like one window cleaner, doesn't mean he won't like you.  Round our way we have several different types of people calling themselves a window cleaner, here's a few.

Dole top ups, in jogging bottoms,
Retired men earning a bit of beer money,
Summer brigade,
Non-uniformed professionals woking out of  a car,
Non-uniformed professionals working out of  a van,
Uniformed Professionals,
National companies.

All of these can give good or bad service and be both reliable or not.  It's also not unheard of for a non legit wc to case a joint out and burgle it.  If you have some one coming on your property you have to trust them.  This man might be a perfect customer if you give him the chance, or he might just not like the other wc for a personal reason, like his colour or accent.  Let the customer decide.

Simon.

as I stated on the post they had this w/c for 3 years and every time I passed the windows were spotless,     I don't know the w/c to speak to but we do say hello in passing and next time I see him I will stop and ask him.

but if I think a customer could be a potential problem in the future I would rather not do it all at,      you only have to read the posts on this forum where a problem custy has caused a w/c to wanna slash his wrists because they said can you leave it this month
