What's in a name?
« on: January 09, 2010, 10:45:18 am »
When deciding on a name for your business what are your views on a creative name versus say using your initials/ surname?

Would be interested to hear people's views on this.  Particularly from anyone who has any measurable evidence on which is more successful in the marketplace.

Or does it now matter either way in this business.

Any views?

When I started I was going to use "Something Window Cleaning", but chose "Southern Cleaning Services" as it gives me scope to move into other cleaning activities if I wish to... And "Southern" shows that I cover a certain geographical area, which if I choose can be a very big area (i.e. the whole of the South of England).

I wish I put a bit more thought into our name.  'ABC Window Cleaning' is naff, though it does get you up in the Yellow Pages; but I don't even advertise in the phone books anymore.

When we started wc company I named it SLON cleaning (Elephant in Russian) and was continuing creating more interesting and good sound brand (with available web domain name). In 3 months I created MoemGorod ([we]CleanCity in Russian).

By now we have created and sold some companies and domain names for other WFP WC in Russia - BeeClean, Cleanton, TopCleaner.
